Forums - Gaming Discussion - When will Nintendo's Wii U get a price cut?

I see Nintendo doing the same thing they did with the 3Ds. Make the early adopters pay the extra dough and when the competition is about to come out drop the price. The Wii U will be $249.99 the same month the new consoles come out.

Can they drop the price? Wasn't the 3ds losing money after they dropped the price? And we know the Wii U is losing money. Nintendo would need something to help them be able to drop the price or they will find themselves in a Sony position

mid 2014, you heard it here first.

Don't you remember the Vita launch (and pretty much every month since then)? This is what happens to every console that doesn't meet expectations. It's only fair.

You're telling that to the person that has said it's all a cycle for quite awhile now...

It will get a price cut by the end of Summer. I'd have to say around June, like a month after Pikmin 3 comes out.

You see? This is how you do it. Good job Pezus. A "doom" thread but it at least is well masked and provides discussion as opposed to merely trying to provoke controversy. Well played.

I feel about 2 weeks before the PS4/720 launch, whichever comes sooner. That provides a push the HW, and coupled with SW can fend off that console's respective launch.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Oh BTW I believe Nintendo is taking an ever so slickly loss in NA. They are surely making profit on each sold in Europe and Japan.

the wii u will not be getting a price cut anytime soon. the price is at the optimal range that nintendo set out so it wouldn't have another 3DS on its hands...even though it has another 3DS on its hands. A price cut now will be detrimental to margins, any chance of profitability and question senior leadership as they said they would not put themselves in this situation a second straight time.

It will struggle until the holidays, like most new consoles do, and will receive a $50 price cut right around the time the new consoles come out. After that it will do very well during the holidays. At the same time, the Xbox 720 and PS4 will have worse sales than the Wii U's launch and won't receive many doom threads.
