Because New Years week is the biggest shopping week in Japan generally speaking, everything is supposed to go up. It's where kids take the money they were given over the late December and go spend it I believe.

For xmas parents buy presents for their kids. This week is when people spend the money they get for the New Year, so consoles that appeal to older audiences do better.

Edit: Nope. Yakuza 2 has done over 800k.

Well the WiiU is doing a little worse than I thought (Really gonna need to show some games Iwata).
3ds a monster as usual, look at them software sales.

Nintendo has the handheld market pretty much locked for now, they need to start focusing on getting games out for WiiU and maybe a price cut by Q2.

Nice PS3 numbers, what's causing this? Also @Soundwave, Japan traditionally gives money to kids at the start of the new year not late december.
