I've been asking myself this question. I'm anxiously awaiting what they present. With most 3rd party (including Insomniac now) going multiplat they need to show something very strong. I really don't know what it is. An amazing new IP would potentially do the trick but I don't have a lot of confidence that they can do this. A strong product at a reasonable price could make me consider. I think, right now, the best chance Sony has will come down to failure from its competitors. If WiiU doesn't get multiplats and NExtBox is too expenisve or has a costly subscription model, then all Sony needs to do is be good and be affordable and they will get my cash.

-Cloud Gaming via Gaikai.
-Playstation Plus and its instant games collection
-Free To Play games finally possible due to increase RAM. Especially MMOs.
-PS4 1st party exclusives as well as big 3rd party games like Call of Duty/Battlefield

It wouldn't surprise me if Sony put a blu-ray drive in there capable of reading 8 or 16 layer discs. Pioneer already made 16 layer blu-ray discs in 2008. This year Sony is launching "mastered in 4K" superbit blu-rays. (downsampled to 1080p). I'm sure they have plans to launch actual 4K blu-rays as soon as the format has been fleshed out.
It won't sell it at launch, but when a slim comes out in 4 years it might make a difference.

Very good question, this generation I chose PS3 over Xbox 360 because it was also a blu ray player and a lot of people I know bought it for the same reason (CoD, PES and FIFA you can find in all other consoles), next generation does not seems to be so clear option.

So it has to have a very strong/exclusive lineup of japanese titles and a very interesting price point or ways to reach that low price very fast.

Do they need more than their first party stable? They will have 4K movie playback which obviously Wii U doesn't have and MS might not have so there's that too.
