Forums - Sales Discussion - Halo 4 sells more in 7 weeks than GT:5 sold in its first year

Halo fans must only play Halo I have about 40 friends on 360 I met playing various games including Reach and only 1 or 2 I ever see playing Halo 4.

Maybe the fact that it's an immensely fun series is the reason for that.

Its nice to see that the Xbox biggest gun is still bigger then the other guys biggest gun.

Thing is, there's also Halo 3 and Halo Reach that also outsold the game. PD should take note. One-trick ponies (one full game per gen) for your #1 IP is just wrong.

?

GT5 - 8.62m

Halo 4 - 7.03m

Let's not count chickens before they hatch.

Anyway, isn't this expected? Massive front-loaded sales? (I mean they're awesome sales, 1m per week is astounding, but expected)

Sony could learn a thing or two from MS about pushing exclusives...

for people pointing out the GT5 was bundled

enjoy and celebrate the sales, but just dont be hypocrites and downplay GT5 sales because it was bundled after 3 years

1 limited console bundle vs 8 regular bundles then.

ok so explain this to me, GT5 sales are pointless because it was bundled in its 3rd year. while halo 4's bundle doesnt matter because its only 1 bundle at launch?

No that is not what I said.

GT5 sold well, no doubt! Some of its sales are due to heavy bundling. And no, GT5 was not bundled after three years. In fact it is still being bundled after 3 years.

both games sold great no arguing there. Halo's will most probably be better too. and the "heavy bundling" only started with the slim which released in octobor

Don't believe everything ethomaz tells you.

GT5 was bundled the day it released.

Limited edition for Japan, release date November 3, 2010:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/18/ps3-gets-titanium-blue-makeover-for-gran-turismo-5-launch-bundle/

Mainstream bundle for EU, released November 2010

http://kotaku.com/5649762/europe-getting-gran-turismo-5-bundle

The next mainstream bundle for Europe, Released 2011
Still available on Amazon.de :D

And the next big bundle, release date 2012
Available in EU.

And then there are still various editions (esstentials / platinum / GT5 academy edition / GT5 XL edition) and quite a few bundles with peripherals, but I don't feel like posting these as well.

I posted this a couple of times now, I don't get why people have a problem to acknowledge that Sony bundled GT5 in a very big way.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

IMO its a fun series that usually has a good campaign, I cant stand the jumpy floaty MP so I usually wait for a price drop under $30 before buying just for the campaign. Glad you and millions or others enjoy it though.

It means they have to admit that GT5 needed help out the gate, and still did way less then what Halo 4 is doing.

It also even more so means they cant discredit Forza as much for its bundles. So ppl like ethomaz will pretend GT5 sold under its own steam for the majority of its shelf life and then point the finger at Forza for mass bundling, nevermind it only took cues from GT3.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

i dont know what ethomaz has to do with this thread. and when did i deny that sony didnt bundle GT5? didnt MS also heavily bundle halo reach and 3 before? dont all manufactures bundle their best selling games? if those bundles were the majority of GT5 sales then littlebig planets and uncharted sales would have been the same as GT5's, but they are not. bundling did help its sales but its not the only reason its selling. no reason to put down GT5's sales because of it. thats what im been trying to say all along

I wish we could know revenues rather than unit numbers.

Well by definition of course it cant.  its a ludicrous thing to wonder.

...and there is no proof for massive undertracking.  Shiments are shipments.  What a surprise that PD release shipments numbers rigt at the time they would have shipped big numbers for the holidays and around the new editions and Sony too with that Playstation3 number.  Its how they roll these days.  They tell us what they want to tell us when it suits them to tell us.  Lets see if GT5 shipment data is updated for Dec 31st and if PS3 discrete data is released for Dec 31st shall we.  I'd bet not.

9.2 Million shipped at the end of September.
7.9 Million "sold" at the end of September.
8.6 Million "sold" as of 22nd December.

Are you seriously saying that you think that isnt undertracked? According to VGChartz it has still yet to get to within 500k of that September shipment.

1.3 Million units on ships/shelves is simply far too much for a game that hadnt even sold 1.3 Million in 2012 at that time.

But it is 0.6m, you just said so.  Please dont treat games shipments like hardware shipments.  They dont press a few thousand then a few thousand more to order.  They ship large quantities for extended periods of sales.

and who said anything about shelves and ships.  If PD ships to SCEA or SCEE for future bundles etc they are still shipped as far as PD are concerned.

How many Halo games do you think have been shipped? 9m?  I'd say yes, about that.

wake up and stop living in denial, GT5 is undertracked, you dont want to believe that fine but dont go around claiming it isnt when we have offical numbers. in no logical way would PD ship about 1.3 million while entering the games third year. its as simple as that

GT5 sold 2.33 million in its first week in the same week the ps3 did about 770k meaning if every PS3 sold had a GT5 bundled with it (was of course wasnt, not even close) GT5 would have sold about 1.6 million in its first week without bundles.  GT5 then proceeded to outsell the PS3 for another two weeks. GT5 hardly needed any help out of the gate, your logic is flawed as your entire post. seriously wake up and stop this unbelievable hate towards a game that you dont even play, its not healthy

It would be 600,000 units of GT5 still yet to be sold from September. Those 600,000 probably wont be done by VGC until say, February? Are you saying that PD shipped stock for ~5 Months?

Its pretty obvious that its undertracked.

1.3 Million is too much, no matter what you say. It wasnt selling outstandingly when the numbers were announced and its nowhere near selling out said September shipment. Nothing will change my mind on this.

Halo 4? No idea. What numbers have Microsoft or 343i released?.
