Forums - Sony Discussion - Can someone explain why people thought that Playstation All-Stars would sell millions of copies?

Some people thought SONY would actually advertise this thing. Some just never learn.

What is behind the hype actually?  Would an Uncharted clone by Nintendo suddenly sell millions on a Nintendo platform?

An uncharted clone would be very unlikely to sell much on nintendo either. An ico clone would do much better. Lets be honest, sony copied it because they saw the sales of smash bros and thought it was easy money. It is possible smash bros popularity also comes from it having characters from games like mario, zelda, pokemon etc. But I think it is more to do with the concept.

Sony changed things to make it different but the concept was done.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

'Cos Smash Bros. sold millions of copies. Main reason.

I am curious about the reasoning behind this.  I didn't see All-Stars being a big hit, and be the top selling fighting game this generation, but I remember others said it would.  As of now, it is under 400K sold total across all platforms it is on:

Can someone explain the reasoning behind this?  I don't get it.  What am I missing?  People were even expecting Sony to do a bundle for it.  Why?  Please explain.  I am confused by this reasoning.  Bundling was seen as a reason to get the millions of sales, it was argued.  I am curious why people thought Sony would bundle it (I did see some Black Friday retail stuff, where retailers did it though).

How about showing us who thought it would sell millions of copies?

i see an awful lot of people (sony fans included) telling gilga he's crazy.  but hey, if you want to sterotype people based on the crazies i can tredge up some ridiculous nintendo predictions to throw in your face too.

Probably because it was based on a game that sells close to 10 million copies.

121 people said more than 2 million, which I don't see it happening at this rate, so yeah it wasn't only Gilgamesh.

A lot people were hyping this game up because of the unknown roster. After the roster was known and they found out Crash and Spyro weren't included, some people stopped the hype. I wasn't expecting a great deal of sales for the game, but I do expect it to hit a million, whether it be retail only or retail + digital, I'm sure it will reach it.

I know a lot of are waiting for this to hit plus, but I don't think it will be free on plus no time soon. There could be a plus discount or something. I expect a demo for people to try it out and maybe the game will sell a little more. I also see a bundle with Sly Cooper and PlayStation All Stars before or during the holiday.

maybe you should be careful that it's christmas and we don't have official numbers yet.

Those could be between 1 and 2 million units, and again at this rate it will be kinda hard to even reach the 1.5m mark, maybe by the end of the year.
