The competition offering vastly superior products.

Watch it.

So you think that sony/ms will be releasing only slightly more powerful consoles than their current hw?

Power != superiority.

3rd party support - but why?

Because Asymmetric Gameplay is a dud.

The Wii U says - 2 Screens are better than 1

The industry says - 1 Screen is better than 2.

Why is that? Because it takes too much brainpower, design, creativity, new risks, unknown territory, time, to make a groundbreaking Asymmetric game than a regular 1-screen T.V. game.

Asymmetric Play is already dead in the water for 3rd parties.

No 3rd parties are singing Asymmetric Gameplay's praises. It's already too difficult a financial environment for Dev's, they can't afford to take risks on Asym.

What a load of nonsense. This made me laugh

most games we have seen from 3rd part or ports, so they have not taken advantage of the gamepad.

We have rayman legends and alien colonial marines both have assymetric gameplay, getting a release on the wii u. Apparantly assymetric gameplay is dead for 3rd parties

@bolded When did the industry say that. Show me proof. Stop  spewing nonsense from your mouth

Bet with ninjablade:

Ninjablade wins if the next 5 multiplat on the wii u are inferior to the 360 version.

I win if one of the 5 mulitplats are on par or superior on the Wii U.

LOL lack of 3rd party support is not an obstacle for Nintendo as history should tell them not to except much 3rd party support, so they should be focusing on their own game development more so than ever to ensure a steady flow of games.

3rd Party Dev's by & large are passing the Wii U by.  Actions speak louder than words.  They've spoken with their actions.

Asym games are too complicated to develop, regardless of how easy the Dev Kit is for Nintendo.

Sure, we'll see some games with trite GamePad features, because they feel obligated to use it...or else, why is the GamePad even there?

But only Nintendo and Ubisoft, who seem particulary enamored with Asym, will make deep Asym experiences.

Maybe if & when Nintendo makes an epic game for their new system, that has Asym experiences that grab the public the same way motion control did with the Wii...3rd parties will follow suit.  But they're not going to bet big on Asym until Nintendo proves its value.

As of now, making people realize Wii U isn`t an add-on to your Wii.
Provide other titles of the caliber of Wii Fit/Wii Sports on Wii U to reach the mass market.
Use the HD capability to improve franchises.
Keep improving the online experience, especially Miiverse.

I would say that the biggest obstacle would be all these "tweenies" (and the publishers who encourage them) who have been nurtured to treat console gaming as an extension of PC gaming. The undesirable side-effects of this have manifested in such gambits:

  • Obsession over the specs of surface-mount components such as Processors and RAM - something which should ONLY matter in cases where the end-user has a choice to replace said components, so for now you are limited to all such as "DUDE I SENT MY CONSOLE FOR REPAIRS AND GOT A BITCHIN NEW BLUETOOTH CARD"
  • Obsession over cutting-edge tech - something which should ONLY matter in cases where the end-user can replace out-of-date components. If you choose console gaming, you do not have this luxury. You must stay the the course until the next generation and stop expecting the moon on a stick.
  • Computer and console gamers used to be at war throughout the 80's, but the golden age of gaming made everyone forget and a sort of truce happened. Now we're in the position where consoles have impinged on PCs, and this has seemingly caused a vast community to lash out at console gamers again.
  • PEOPLE DO NOT LEARN

As far as launches go, the Wii U had a small first party line-up (2 games) and was still one of the largest launch libraries of any console; and, while there were a lot of ports, the Wii U had many highly reviewed third party games. I wouldn't say that is a bad sign as far as third party support goes.

With that said, until E3 I also wouldn't say that the Wii U's third party support is great; but I do think it is shaping up to be substantially better than the Wii's third party support was.

The WiiU has had a slow start in Europe, which is mainly down to the financial mess of the Eurozone. People just cant afford new higher priced hardware at this time, and the situation is likely to be ongoing. WiiU is going to be a lot more affordable than Microsoft or Sonys next offerings, so if people are put off by WiiUs price point, i dont see the competition doing any better.

I think that-
1, Microsoft and Sonys next consoles wont be the powerhouses everybody expects, and we may see quite a few dissapointed people.
2, This gen is going to drag on as the current HD consoles are now affordable, and the next gen will be slow to catch on.
3, I think the next gen market leader will only sell a modest amount of hardware, prob decent numbers but nothing out of this world.

What im saying in a nutshell is, its not just Nintendo facing obstacles. The upcoming gen is going to be very unpredictable for all concerned.

Early out... Defining exactly what the Wii U is to the masses.. and telling them why they need one...

Early on= Third party support

The possibility that the Wii U will not be adopted by the public as the Wii was... of course that will change real quick if Microsoft and Sony release another 600 buck system.. without price cuts sooner rather then later at which point they are just shoveling sales right over to Nintendo..

The fact that 3DS especially with the release of the XL version may actually appeal to more gamers.

The fact that they released their system first.. very seldom if ever is that a good omen for a system...

If the Wii.. and DS.,.. and 3DS.. proved one thing by now.. having a superior product (Hardware wise) does not always equal winning a generation as far as sell numbers goes.. Nintendo wins.. because they have good enough systems.. at a better price.. with fun and known franchises/games...

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)
