A tablet interface for a desktop ?

I'll stay with W7 for now. But Surface seems awesome for me.

"Year over year sales are down more than 20% for windows devices"

Lolwut?

The article cites NPD for that.. Probably due to windows 7 falling off over time and slow adoption of windows 8

Yeah...in North America. You should edit the OP, because it makes it look like sales for Windows devices are down 20% YOY worldwide.

The numbers speak for themselves.

I report, you decide.

I was worried about Surface when it was sold exclusively from the Microsoft store, but John Lewis started selling the Surface RT on Friday, and other retailers like Currys are soon gonna follow suit. The Surface is gonna do fine.

but they still made profit right?

Yeah, like I've said previously, Microsoft has built up an enormous moat from its past successes, but you can't just do that anymore.  Companies need growth and innovation.  You're either growing or stagnating over time, and it looks like this company is doing the latter.

100% agreed

The Windows 8 phone is gonna do really well. The advertising is great and Nokia are REALLY pushing it hard and getting lucrative deals with China Telecom, Telcel in Mexico, etc.

If you wanna speak for numbers..

Smartphones devices shipments are increasing at a huge pace year over year ( peaking 45 %).
Tablet shipments increasing at remarkable pace year over year ( peaking 70% 2012 )
Now both have one thing in common..they were TOUCH SCREEN DEVICES.

Now touchscreen Ultrabooks/Desktops are shipping from this november .. you can imagine what is going to happen to their shipments.

It is already reported touch screen windows 8 ultra books demand are on the rise .

I REPORT... YOU DECIDE

What are they thinking anyway? Windows 7 came out only 3 years ago.

I could understand Windows 7 coming out only 2 years after Vista because Vista was bad but there's no reason for me to change to Windows 8 so soon since I'm satisfied with Windows 7 right now.

They are trying to push forth a new business model. With the success of touch screens and tablets they wanted to make a Windows that could serve both markets. They also are trying to close up their OS so they can control their service offerings. The whole living room push is involved in this too. They want to get a piece of that pie and create a uniform system that would work in all markets. It is kind of a money grab I guess, it definetly isn't Microsofts normal MO.

The thing is, that at least I do not want them to achieve that.

When it comes to W8, it's not that I don't care about getting it. I have W7 and from what I saw about W8, I just don't want to get it. I'm not neutral, I'm against it. Even if someone gave it to me for free, I'd still stick to W7, which is just perfect for me. I think that many people feel the same way and that is the problem for MS.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Sure, but moving too much into tablets and mobile is probably a mistake IMO, I mean the market is just poorer in general.  You just can't do as much with ms office on a tablet, so you know that msft won't be able to demand as much from consumers want Office on a tablet.  This isn't a good move for msft....

Yes. While W8 has improvements and features it is a product laced with things we don't want to happen as their new business direction. I know they are tring to get a heads up on the market but closing their system up is the opposite of why plenty of techs and businesses prefer windows. It seems like they are trying to be Apple now a days. It is like Mircrosoft is flavoring medicine for us, but medicine we don't want/need.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
