But there is no way that the PS2 is selling higher in emerging countries than what DS does in NA, Europe and Japan combined.

Well according to this weeks media create numbers the ps2 is outselling the nintendo ds in japan :)

PS2 904

Nintendo DS 424

We can only go by shipment numbers and at the moment they are currently

PS2 153.6 million

Nintendo DS 152.5 million

Believe me when/if the DS overtakes the PS2 nintendo will release a press release

Sorry but Japan is irrelevant here as both consoles are pretty dead there.

As for other markets, you can easily see in NA, at least, that PS2 doesnt sell anymore (do not see any consoles on shelves) where there is still plenty of DS being sold.

It seems the same thing is happening in emerging markets, like our friend from Colombia said.

The fight in Japan is pretty close.

PS2: 55.005
DS: 66.983

Last year...

PS2: 73.373
DS: 628.434

So PS2 flat in Japan while DS is way down.

Lol, you're throwing the wrong PS's all over the place (here and in the other thread) .

I forgive you though.

lol again

Well PS2 is still selling here in Brazil but not like previous years (it was selling better than 360, Wii and PS3).

It was released here in 2009.

Congratulations Nintendo on finally taking back the crown!

If you think about how many PS2 were bundled with phone contracts and how much PHATS died the DISK READ ERROR death you can actually say the DS is the winner. It simply is.
(I dont know any1 who owns a phat anymore lol and I also "bought" 2 PS2s because my phat died)

If you just go by numbers of units sold (no matter the way) then we dont have a clear winner since we lack the numbers. And shipment doesnt even give us a hint since 2 different companies handle their productions totally different.
(most car manufacturers for example have like 0 difference between sold and shipped because they want to avoid storage costs so they sell, then produce and then ship sure this doesnt apply to consoles it was just an example. As long as we have no idea how willing Sony and Nintendo and retailers are at storing the products we have no idea how shipped translates into sold)

I checked more some intersting facts...

DS: 152.5m shipped / 152.2m sold (300k on shelves at Sep, 2012)
PS3: ~156m shipped / 153.7m sold (2.3m on shelves at Dec, 2012 * I used the the recent sales for PS2 because there is no other data on VGChartz)

There are something wrong with this numbers.

I wouldn't put too much faith in poor countries that suffer from civil war and poverty, buying PS2s to say PS2 is still #1.

By year end forsure, DS will have won. Cheers to parents who dont know any better!

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

@__@ mind blown! You didnt play PS2 until 2009 ;O?

Official here, no.

Imported, yes... I bought mine in 2007 in black market (imported without government taxes)... and I used only pirated games because there was no way to buy official games here and import games was too complicated the black market just sell pirated games.

That's changed after 2009 (PS2 launch) and 2010 (PS3 launch)... now we have even localized games (almost all Sony first-party games).

Ahhhh atma, never change.

The PS2 outshipped the DS between January-July this Year.

Its well known that the PS2 numbers here are vastly undertracked. Certain people dont want to see it, though. Just like last time the DS "passed" the PS2 going by VGChartz numbers.

Jan-March 2012 Shipments -

PS2: 0.6 Million NDS: 0.46 Million

Apr-July 2012 Shipments -

PS2: 1M to 1.1 Million. We know this, due to knowing what PS3 sold along with YoY % decrease in PS3 numbers. NDS: 0.54 Million

The PS2 outshipped the DS in the first half of 2012.
