Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii Mini is real, 99 dollars, Dec. 7

I think this looks great! I travel on holiday to see my family and this would be a great option to travel instead of my normal Wii.

No online? Seriously?! That's NOT a big deal to me, I barely play online with my brother and honestly most people don't do it. I only use the online for the Wii Shop, Weather Channel and from time to time the Nintendo Channel. The only fun I had with online was with Mario Kart and probably PES. Smash Bros and Dragon Ball were TERRIBLE online! Probably Call of Duty and Goldeneye are fun too but I haven't play them.

Also, if I already have the Wii, why would I buy it for VC games? I would have to pay for them again so no thanks. Only thing I admit would had been great is Netflix, but oh well.

Only problem is... this should be cheaper. The last Wii (without GC compatibility but with WiFi) costs $89.

So this one should be cheaper as there's no reason to buy this one at a higher price.

People keep mentioning "only in Canada" while failing to realize it also says "during the holidays".

It will be worldwide after January. Probably in multiple colors too.

Not in Canada. There is a reason this was started in Canada and not in US. That $89 deal was for BlackFriday/holidays in US (just as the blue one was for last year) and it will be gone soon.

Currently the Wii with the two WiiSport games are only $129. So this is a truly core gaming experience for $99 and will be worldwide after the holidays and their special deals are gone. Its also likely the WiiSports bundle for $129 will remain as it would mean only $30 for both games and online vs no online and $40 for both games if bought separately. i.e. two skus worldwide for a part of next year at least.

Haha that thing looks like its made by Fisher-Price. I guess $99 is a good price though. If I had money I would consider getting one just to have a back-up.

Also, Canada clearly paid off Nintendo for this exclusive, stupid money-hatting countries.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

I would get this just because If it would've had network capabilities.

Edit: No Mario Kart online, no buy!

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

Oh ok that makes sense then. But wouldn't it be better for Nintendo to release it during the holidays?   I know I would buy one now, if not I would wait several months until my next holidays....

I'm trying to wrap my brain around why in the world Nintendo would produce this new model, literally at the end of the Wii's life, and then strip out major features to boot. Setting up a new form factor like that costs money, and is not trivial. The only reason I would think they'd take out the Wifi chip is because no one is making an 802.11b (11mb) wifi chip anymore. But then why not replace it with an N or G version?

It appears to be a pop top console like PS1, so they must have run out of slot loading DVDs. Perhaps they just had a whole mess of extra broadways and hollywoods but not any of the other major components? I dunno. Doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Check out my Youtube Let's Play channel here.

I would buy one instantly if it played games region free like the top loader NES.

For who? The market spans beyond the core crowd, you agree?
Also, Superchunk compared the price value with the other Wii offerings, I'm sure you read it.
