I'm trying to wrap my brain around why in the world Nintendo would produce this new model, literally at the end of the Wii's life, and then strip out major features to boot. Setting up a new form factor like that costs money, and is not trivial. The only reason I would think they'd take out the Wifi chip is because no one is making an 802.11b (11mb) wifi chip anymore. But then why not replace it with an N or G version?

It appears to be a pop top console like PS1, so they must have run out of slot loading DVDs. Perhaps they just had a whole mess of extra broadways and hollywoods but not any of the other major components? I dunno. Doesn't make any sense to me at all.
