Times have changed and microsoft now have the stronger brand in NA and the UK. So I don't think it will create any real issues for them, its really sony who needs the headstart this time. But I've said it a million times before, the 1st 9 months of sales are largely redundant and don't make much of a difference. It all comes down to games and which ever launches 1st is unlikely to have a killer line up
- 360 console excluisves from nov-2005-september 2006-: A bunch of games not worth noting.

-Reason the xbox got ahead of ps3 in NA: much cheaper price, better exclusives in 2007/2008: Fable 2, Halo 3, Mass effect, Bioshock, Lost Odyssey, Project Gotham racing, Gears of War, Gears of war 2. Not to mention better versions of all the 3rd part games which mattered. The only reason to buy a ps3 at this point was because MSG4, Little Big Planet (both arrive later then a lot of the big 360 titles) or if you were looking for a blu-ray player.

Actually this all has to do with advertising the product, down here in australia sony seems to be doing quite well

I mean i started highschool back in 2007 and the 360 was considered the cool console, and if you didn't have one they would pay you out, but at the end of  highschool the ps3 was considered the cool console and everyone was playing call of duty on it

Never seen such a quick turn around in my life, and all of this is simple, sony advertises more then microsoft down here

for every 5 ps3 ads i see, i'll see 1 xbox ad, and to make things harder for microsoft, stores like kmart,target,eb games, jb hi fi have started promoting ps3 products now, instead of xbox.

Who ever advertises the most always wins in the end "word to the mouth can only get you so far"

PS3 is doing well everywhere just not ahead of microsoft saleswise in some regions. What year did the perception change? It down to advertising I'm sure but from 2009 onwards, the ps3 began to push ahead as the better system (exclusives and all), but there is still the pressure to get whatever system your friends own so you can play them online.

Losing the one year head start is more than made up by the decline of Sony and the Playstation brands.

Look at Sony's recent hardware launches including Move, Go, Vita, Wonderbook, etc, all of which are viewed as flops by most people. The only reason the PS3 is selling well is because of the amount of money that Sony was willing to lose in funding price cuts and game development. Looking at Vita it's obvious that the money is drying up since the Sony of old would have thrown it a lifeline instead of letting the 3DS destroy it this year.

The last time that Microsoft and Sony went head to head was with Kinect vs. Move and we know how that turned out. What happens this time when Microsoft is able to outspend Sony by hundreds of millions if not more in advertising and also being able to use Xbox Live to make up for selling their next system at a loss (something that Sony will likely be unable to do). This is not even taking into account how much weaker Sony will be next year compared to even this year.

As for new IP if people have been paying attention they would see that Microsoft has been preparing to charge out of the gate at the next launch. There are now dozens of studios working on next generation 720 games and going by what we've heard from developers the consensus is that they expect the 720 to be the leader.

Well 2009 started it all, but 2011 was the main factor, sony dropped it's price by $150 down here, and it had a huge impact, infact microsoft had to drop it's price by over $100 just to compete with sony

I bet both launch next year. There was some news recently that MS has said that's the plan for them but it's not news that they've been having some trouble so it might be a "soft" launch like some have been saying.

As for what Sales2099 (pretty much anything I've seen him say actually). I'm pretty new to this site but his kind isn't rare. Sales matter when it suits him and don't when it doesn't. He leaves out information and gives "half truths" just to try and sound right.

Yes, the 360 has sold more lifetime than the PS3. But it's been out and extra year. Every year that the PS3 has been out it has outsold the 360. Even if you align the launches the PS3 has outsold the 360 every year. The ONLY reason the 360 has sold more is its year advantage.
