Mod edit: edited out all the antagonistic bits that you should have known you worded in a way just to annoy.  So basically the whole thing. Feel free to give it another shot if you think you can post without flamebaiting/trolling.  -Torillian

Ok sorry, I will try to be a lil bit more respectful in the future when i make a comment.

WTF? Article is obviously trolling.

Funny how they call Assassin's Creed on Vita a "Major launch" lmfao. It's a western game releasing on a dying handheld in Japan, it won't do much.

If the Vita got half the support the PSP got this year in Japan, it wouldn't be in this situation.

Nintendo has a similar problem with the DS and 3DS in America, but to a lesser degree.

Competing against a console that is almost half it's price.
Yup, totally apparent that these comments are well reasoned and factual.

Well the discussion should be about how Sony screwed up with the price then. Consoles don't come fully formed into this world from the God of Videogames to be revered. The high-end performance it brings is very much a minus point: it wasn't necessary to sell the console, and it raised the price tag.

I disagree on the bolded part. The 3DS has some featured that distinguishes itself from the PSP, but power is not one of them. I predicted a too powerful for its own good NGP when I first saw the 3DS. Just look at the fact that whatever new architecture Sony uses has to be enough of a leap over the PSP that consumers will see it as next gen. Otherwise, Sony might just as well reuse the PSP architecture, and from there either pull a Wii (how is that supposed to work for handhelds?) or just release a PSP with extra functionality.

I think the fate of the NGP was sealed as soon as the DS became competitive being a gen behind the PSP technically.

what is really funny is i doubt very much that Sony really expected the PSVita to take off like some seem to think after the What happend to the PSP and than the PSPGo, i doubt Sony really expected stellar performance in the market anyway.

Did they expect better than the PSPGo, sure no doubt about that , did they expect much more than say the PSP's performance this quickly in the market most likely no, And As their smartphones are selling over 8.5 million experia smartphones a sales quarter, this further cements the move toward the Smartphone market which Sony was already doing in the first place, the Playstation suite and buying the entire ericsson company as a whole. you do not invest that much money over 1.4 billion USD and not expect to make it a priority over selling 13 million units  a year in the dedicated Game handheld market for anyone outside of Nintendo, and that is if your lucky.

the fact that Already Xperia smartphones now have PlaystationMobile games that soon wil have trophy support and direct PSN access along with Playstation Plus for smartphone users added also to plus.

"The PS3 is aging badly"

I could be wrong here, but isn't the PS3 actually aging less badly than the other members of its generation? Does he think a console nearing the end of it's life-cycle is supposed to be churning out the same numbers every year? I think this guy is being somewhat sensationalistic and sounds like another cheerleader for iOS gaming.

Well put.

PS3 has matured and aged very well. Better than the Wii.

And the PSV is not "about to be knocked out of the handheld market" either. Sony has not even played its most powerful cards yet (price cut).

Yes well, but we all know that's because they -very obviously- cannot afford to do so, at all. Otherwise they definitely would  have cut the price by now.

But yes, the comment about the PS3 aging badly is just plain wrong, it's doing perfectly well for a console released 6 years ago.

Console power has never been a factor in game consoles succeeding or not. Weak consoles have always sold well. It is always about the games they have, and apart from Wii Sports there are few games that couldn't be done without the hardware gimmick or that absolutely need the hardware to be fast to be a good game.

2D games have been good enough to fulfill what the developer had in mind since 1992, 3D games since 2001.

Yes, Sony should have carried on with the PSP, but "relaunched" it with three or four megahit games. Like, Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Pokemon and Nintendogs. I don't LBP Mario-aesthetic without Mario-core-mechanics, I mean actually good games that copy heavily but with original level design. Would also cost a lot less than developing new hardware or AAA console titles, because none of them need more than ~DS graphics.

Why is there a need for a new "generation" all the time? Sales are dying for the older consoles due to lack of games people want, not because it is somehow "time" for a refresh.

What's an NGP?

The MAJOR correction needed was the description of playstation "aging badly." What.sales figures have ypu been watching lol....

Vita is just the nail in dedicated quality handheld's coffin. 3ds isn't quality, its rubbish much like andoid/iphone...it's the truth lol, no offense to the fanboys. Sony has been the only company to provide quality handhelds, and it seems people just want cheap and easy.

It's like this looming deathclock for vita, if they actually turn it around it will be a miracle lol.

I know that, but what would convince people to buy a new handheld that is really similar to the PSP hardware wise (and with the new tough and OLEd that the Vita has)? I just don't think Sony has it in them to relaunch a hardware architecture like how Nintendo relaunched the Gamecube architecture as the Wii. It would require a total reorganization of how they are structured and operate to be possible. And thus, power is the easy path.

I see new generations as a powerful competitive weapon. Just look at the Genesis, it gained traction versus the 8-bit Nintendo when it started getting impressive games. It's always the games that compete against each other, but games run on hardware. I agree that it's bad to just abandon systems though. I bet the NES or Atari market would still be around in some shape if they weren't abandoned.
