Competing against a console that is almost half it's price.
Yup, totally apparent that these comments are well reasoned and factual.

Well the discussion should be about how Sony screwed up with the price then. Consoles don't come fully formed into this world from the God of Videogames to be revered. The high-end performance it brings is very much a minus point: it wasn't necessary to sell the console, and it raised the price tag.

I disagree on the bolded part. The 3DS has some featured that distinguishes itself from the PSP, but power is not one of them. I predicted a too powerful for its own good NGP when I first saw the 3DS. Just look at the fact that whatever new architecture Sony uses has to be enough of a leap over the PSP that consumers will see it as next gen. Otherwise, Sony might just as well reuse the PSP architecture, and from there either pull a Wii (how is that supposed to work for handhelds?) or just release a PSP with extra functionality.

I think the fate of the NGP was sealed as soon as the DS became competitive being a gen behind the PSP technically.

What's an NGP?
