There will be more shipments after that during the holiday season.  That is just the initial shipment.

Video game sales are now more holiday oriented than before so wouldn't be surprised. But it won't match the Wii's first year demand I predict. It will sell good though with the release of MArio, Nintendo Land, Wii Fit U and Pikmin the first few months

I didn't know they had the Fit ready for launch.  That should help but they should have brought Sports at launch also.

Launch window. Probably means a spring 2013 release

Ah, makes a little sense I suppose since that will just carry the Wii U next year.  Better to reserve some games for early / mid next year.  Probably main reason why they delayed Pikmin.

Go Nintendo! I wish an outstanding launch and even better holiday season for your Wii U!

Ok but who knows how many that is, and whether Nintendo will have enough systems made in time, so shortages are limited? I want Wii U to be successful but I don't want to see a repeat of the Wii launch, where people had to wait up to 3 months to get them!

Pre-orders sold out, and there were very few available for pre-order so that's not really that impressive.

Yeah, unless Wii U proves to be a disruptor, it just can't compete with the wii.

A product needn't be disruptive to be successful. That said, I don't see much in the Wii U, or the latter half of the Wii itself, to indicate that Nintendo intends to carry on with the values that made the Wii a disruptor, so...*shrug*

It was either high demand fo the system or low number of pre-orders, who knows?

Just to set the goal-posts right, what would be impressive to you? Give me an estimate for first holiday season sales that you would consider impressive.

So, 300,000 to 400,000 sold out pre-orders constitutes as "very few" and "not really that impressive"?
