I'm glad to hear you like it. I also really enjoyed FFXIII's battle system A LOT. I haven't played this yet but I hope I enjoy it too (even without Lightning -_-)
Which ending did you see? There are multiple.
Anyway, for me XIII-2 was an OK game. Some things improved from XIII, some things didn't.
I AM NOT BUYING LIGHTNING RETURNS. I've had enough of these characters and this 'universe" of Final Fantasy.
Give me Versus XIII. Now.

I think you have this false assumption that people stopped caring about FF because of XIII. XIII was simply the last straw for many.
Both 13 and 13-2 were trash. They were different from each other, which only meant that they were trash in their own distinctive ways.

I liked it. But, I liked 13 too, so there goes my credibility ^_^.
but I liked this a lot better.
The story's silly, and worse than the original. but I liked the story more if that makes sense. I liked the characters a lot more and they're more fleshed out. I hated hope, and snow, I liked them this time. The little conversations amusing, and there was a lot more humor than final fantasy has had since X-2 and 9.
Going back in time with the paradox scope to get alternate endings is pretty neat, and also a unique way of doing new game +. and there's some amusing fragment abilities. The monster building is pretty fun too.
Plus, you can put items on your monsters.
I also was not a fan of the monster in your party. Idk, it just didn't feel right to me. I'm going to finish the game soon when I have more time to dedicate to it. 5/10 IMO. I liked 13 better.
Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"
When you go in with really low expectations you often get surprised that it wasn't so bad and you end up enjoying something that is quite mediocre.
It happens to us all the time. And just as often in the opposite way.
