I think its just an American thing.

It's weird, but Canada also has Black Friday sales on the same day even though we celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier. Maybe only for those larger franchises with a substance US presence.

Ours are on a much smaller scale and usually aren't even good deals, it's just something retailers started doing recently to cash in on the all the hype surrounding "Black Friday", and to pull in shoppers not willing to cross the border.

The real sales come on Boxing Day, right after Christmas.
