Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Michael Pachter slams Wii U sales forecast

Michael Pachter, up until recently believed that the Nintendo launch was looking quite well. That all changed today. Pachter claims that the sales of the hardware fot the Wii U of 5.5 million are low. Furthermore, he claims that selling 24 million (4 games per console sold - incl. bundle) of software, is unrealistically high. He also believes that the current path of the Wii U is dissapointing.

What do you guys think? Is he right or is he trolling again?

Edit

All is right with the world. It was too weird having Pachter optimistic about anything Nintendo :P

I think he is right with this one, only time will tell really.

Has he ever been right?

Thank God... I was worried about Nintendo there for a while.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I think he's right, but only because Nintendo is being ridiculously optimistic, especially about the software.

Unless maybe they were talking about shipped instead of sold?

Love and tolerate.

That sentence is not correct. Actually Pachter was disappointed that Nintendo's forecast on HW was so low at 5.5 million Wii U's. Pachter had expected 6-7 million.

For the first time I don't think Patcher is going crazy on this one, Nintendo does have high hopes for the system, so we just have to wait and see.

Nintendo and PC gamer

If the existance of cheaper competing consoles was that decisive then no new consoles would prevail on the market. Not everyone is willing to buy a Xbox 360 or PS3 now when they know they will lose major support when they will be replaced next year and that Wii U is a console that might last them 5 to 6 years, at least.
PS2`s success didn`t stop Xbox 360 or Wii from selling .

Exactly what I was thinking.  I even reread that part twice because I thought I'd misunderstood.  His criticism is that Nintendo is setting the bar too low on hardware and too high on software.

I don't know about the hardware, but that attachment rate does seem high.  Four games per person on a new console would be a lot of money.
