EA has revealed that Fifa 13 has become the biggest video game launch of 2012. It achieved this feat by selling over 4.5 million copies worldwide in the 5 days since launch, and finishing as the top-selling game in at least 40 different countries.

Some of the staggering numbers for Fifa 13 include an 800,000 person peak of simultaneous players online, 66 million online sessions, 600 million minutes of play, and 1.23 million copies sold in the UK within 48 hours (becoming the 2nd game in history to sell 1 million copies in the UK in 1 day).

1.23m in the UK is amazing! Plus ~800k(?) in North America.

I went to my local GAME store in Edinburgh and literally every single customer there (about 15) bought a copy of Fifa 13 and nothing else. First time ever I experience such enthusiasm for a game.

its very weird how enthusiasm can grow like this for a yearly sports franchise. Yes Call of Duty is similar, but at least they need to actually make a new campaign and such. These yearly sports franchises usually amount to nothing more than roster updates and a few unnoticiable gameplay tweaks. 

It'd be interesting to know the specific sales for each platform.

What's so special about it comparing to the previous one to make people go gaga over it ?
