Some things are just not for sale

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Hmmm, maybe HL3 would actually be made then. :D

This is why companies should be private.
No need for growth (just being profitable is fine). And no douchebag corporation like EA can do hostile takeovers.

I LOVE ICELAND!

That seems silly bioware was worth 800 million... valve has got to be worth more than 1 billion :P. Especially since buyouts generally overpay what they're worth.

yea not that Gabe would ever sell, because as he puts it he already has more money than he would ever need. And he runs Valve just because he would be bored without something to do every day.

But $1 billion seems rather low for Valve, I mean even if it was say 5 years ago. Valve still had Steam, Half-Life, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike, Source Engine and a couple hundred of the most telented people in the industry.

Bioware just had Mass Effect and a legacy of successful licenced (D&D for the early stuff and Star Wars) PC RPGs, and I guess Pandemic but they weren't exactly hit makers outside of Star Wars: Battlefront.

The New York Times estimated Valve's equity at $2.5b this year.

glad to hear gabes response. not really a fan of his but i like his company a lot.

I don't have a vendetta against EA like some people, but I am getting damn sick of them borging everything in sight.
