No.  Sentences in the USA run concurrently 95% of the time unless the crimes are extremely ergious.

If she gets 2 years each for 16 counts.

Chances are she would serve 2 years.

That's really it. This shouldn't be a criminal case in the strictest sense, but it should be state/federal policy that high school teachers cannot sleep with students who are of age.  For most states i beleive concurrent sentences are mandatory for non-violent crimes.   They just convict you on a lot of crimes at once so that you are found guilty of multiple cases.

I'm just thinking that something like this has to be really, really rare, even compared to the amount of teachers molesting underage students, so its unlikely that it ever gets much attention.

ah this kind of reminds me of this article I read about some bizzare sex laws in the US:

Now I don't know if this is true or not across America, but when I read about the michael jackson doctor in a new paper article the lawyers for jackson family said they were not happy with the 10 years, because the day he walks into prison the sentence is cut in half due to prisoner overpopulation and finances. Further to this, if he behaves well he can be released after 2.5years to ease the burden on the prison. so in essence coudl be serving a qtr what he was sentenced for.

So perhaps a similar thing will happen in this case?

Having worked at a university, lecturers and staff sleeping with students is almost so common, its pretty much ignored unless made public, or overly scandalous

5 at the same time, fits well within the overly scandalous category, but to be arrested for it is just insane & way over the top. You'd expect an internal disciplinary hearing, but to be arrested is WAY too harsh given how prevalent lesser offences are.

Sad thing is, from a Universitys worth of female teachers and staff, THAT lady was the best they could do???, maybe the students should be arrested for their own safety, due to lack of taste,

A lot of laws are so unbelievably dumb and out of date, like seriously. You guys know a college professor can have sex with a student right?

Point is these guys were 18 and legal so nothing is wrong there at all.

That's a pretty damn harsh sentence. I would think her losing her job would be punishment enough. That shouldn't be a criminal offence.

Fired yes for her actions. Legal action, heck no. If you're legal (17 in most states), that's it. That simple. Have to draw the line somewhere. Even 3 don't want to help her get prosecuted, this just shows how dumb the law is. She isn't molesting children. They are adults, and they all needed to be treated as such. If anything, the students should have been expelled and her fired. But that is it. Nothing more!
