Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 - Time for a Redesigned Controller At Long Last?

Should the Playstation Controller

left exactly the way it is? 81 21.26%

I don't really care, I do well with a lot of controllers I tried over the years, but I know that people went completely berserk when Sony showed a different controller design...

I voted to leave it the way it is. I have small hands for a guy and the ps3 dualshock is perfect for me. I personally never felt comfortable with the xbox controller, when I had an xbox.

I'm 90% happy with the PS3 controller. The only thing I've ever been annoyed by is thumb slippage on the analog controller when things get really hot and sweaty. So doing something about that would pretty much be the only essential thing I want.

Yeah, the current one is very outdated, and it doesnt complement the shape of the hand. A more curved one like the SEGA one you posted or an Xbox 360 one would be better.

Has the shape of the human hand changed over the course of 10 years ? !

The dual shock 3 needs:

Better Sixaxis sensitivity (and more game support)

Harder and more analogue-sensitive triggers to perfectly fit racing games, with a new texture so they dont slip easily

The sticks to also be more analogue-sensitive

Although the dpad is great, they could go with the similarly good psvita dpad

*New gimmicks*

Ability to read the gamer's pulse

I'm pretty sure there is like a 5 dollar plastic addon that prevents that from happening. I saw it at Bestbuy.

the ps3 controller is the reason why i play all my multi-plat games on 360 even if they are slightly better on ps3 with less tearing or so. so yeah, i would love to get a new controller version. the actual one is too small to me, i don't even have big hands but i still feel the need to have something in my hand when gaming. i even had no prob with the old xbox controller. when i use the ps3 controller, all i use is my fingers to hold that thiing, my whole carpus/metacarpus only hangs around without having pressure on it, that is bad.

i also don't really like the sticks and triggers. sticks feel not so good in my opinion compared to the 360 sticks because of the smaller resistance and i also like the position more on the 360 controller.

but what it should never have like the 360 controller is the d-pad, damn that is horrible and the worst d-pad i ever used if i'm not wrong.

and all buttons are very good, no need to work on them.

1. Change the triggers to curve inwards
2. Make a d-pad which doesn't tear the skin of your thumb off when playing fighting games
3. Make the controller a little bigger

That would be perfect.

I just want it BIGGER for god sake. I am an adult, not 13 years old anymore.

I think the dual shock is the best controller there is out there. I dont really need them to change anything (improve what is there they can).

By definition an add on to improve basic functionality of a controller means the controller design is flawed. Expecting the consumer to spend extra money to compensate a design flaw is unreasonable, and for people to be happy to do so just shows how much the corporate business world has trained consumers to spend more money to fix a problem which the business should not have put onto the market in the first place.
