Well emulators generally "ports the game", it's just emulators do it in real-time and do it for a majority of games. In these PS2 PSN games case, it's doing it for a minority of the games, or even just one. It's even possible each game has its own tailored emulator. So in the non complicated way, yes it is. |
I was being sarcastic, but I just realised they actually do.
I understand what you mean now when you mentioned emulator hacks, basically they're just tweaking the emulator and the game's code until it works, right?

Not necessarily tweaking the game's code, but tweaking the emulator FOR the game's code.

Ahh, I see, it would be useful if someone could pull apart the files on PSN and compare them to the files on the disc versions.

It's most likely some kind of iso file for the actually DVD and an executable for the emulator all packaged into 1 file. Though if you look around, the Xperia play had its emulator hacked. They have each game set up as one file with fancy "SCE_" labeling.

They also do that with some PS1-PSN games too.

All emulators do this. Only one I've come accross that doesn't is bsnes.

Yeah, that sounds right, otherwise the emulator would have to be repeatedly updated and it will become overcomplicated. I don't think we will see PS2 emulation using DVD's then.
