3D can kiss my arse, both in films and games.
Actually I like the 3D a lot. I do not think there is anything terrible about it. It is a personal preference. All of the games I have played so far in 3D have rocked (Black Ops, KZ3, Ghost Recon, Resistance 3 - sand/snow storm). I enjoy going in on-line matches in 3D. It adds a whole new element in depth the at times does give me advantage over others. I wish more games would support it.
3d isn't bad but the thing that most people don't like about it is wearing glasses. I've played gt5, uncharted 3 and resistance 3 in 3d and they were all fantastic. Watching sport in 3d works really well too. I also watched the masters in 3d and several football matches and it definitely has potential. However the glasses are a big barrier I think. They are still quite chunky and cost too much as well. If all 3d became glasses free as standard it would definitely pick up.

After getting a 3d t, I was surprised by the quality of 3d. Uncharted 3 looked phenomonal as did GT 5 and Batman Arkham City. Cool, but didn't really add anything imo.

Films that are made with 3d in mind can be enjoyable, films that tack on 3d are the worst.
As long as it stays optional I've nothing against 3D, but I won't pay an extra for it until it will become cheap, seamless and comfortable.
I am undecided when it comes to 3D. I love watching a movie in 3D but for gaming I am afraid my eyes get tired after a while.
I bought a 3DS a few weeks ago and after a while it really gets exhausting to have the 3D effect on.
I am afraid 3D is a fad. Most signs point it being a fad right? Practically dead in 5 years from now?
(if we try to measure how much electronics companies are promoting it and developing it, what film-makers and game-developers are saying about it, how much TV broadcasts are investing in it, what the word on the street is, what review and tech sites are saying, consumer buying trends etc).

Yes, 3D is a fad. This isn't the first time that 3D was supposed to become a big thing. It's failing time and time again, even though the technology got better over time. 3D isn't exactly something people want to pay for, so investments in development and marketing of 3D technology will inevitably be scaled back. If you are interested in 3D, there's no need to rush out and get a 3D TV now, because prices will come down due to the lack of massmarket interest. |
Yeah, that's a big personal dilemma. I need a new big screen TV for my living room but I just don't know how to take 3D into the equation (wait for glasses-free 3D or not, get a TV with HDMI that supports 1080p 3D gaming or not or ignore the 3D specs entirely).
And from a gaming perspective. How should I view it I think. Like you have said, 3D doesn't add anything to the experience in a deeper sense. With my 3DS I'm thinking the 3D effect is cool and all but my gaming experience is no worse without it. At least that's what I'm leaning towards now (now that my eyes hurt after a while, dammit).
