Forums - Nintendo - Well, will we see "this" on the Wii U too? If so, i am deeply worried.

The Binding of Isaac was banned from the 3DS e-shop for "questionable religious Content". While i agree that said game tends to be kinda drastic with religious stuff (aswell as violence, actually), i dont understand the point of banning it because of that., since i've thought up until now that Nintendo wants to go a more mature route with its next console, and now i am kinda worried that we might still get some kind of sensorship when it comes to sensitive content. Imagine for Example a theoretical Dantes Inferno 2 not beeing published because of Ninty bitching around...

thoughts? i am worried. And yes, the 3DS is not the WiiU, but Nintendo didnt give any details until now, and to make people believe that they can evolve, they should start sometime soon with how they approach stuff like posted above  i'd say.  (Since all we know is how "familyfriendly" Nintendo can be, but we didnt see anything that showed us the opposite up until now. .. except maybe the Newschannel givin' news about recent child abuse and mass murder, kinda defeating the purpose of keeping sensitive content locked away, but... oh well)

What exactly are you worried about? It seems that you don't get why The Binding of Isaac wasn't allowed on the 3DS and thus fantasize it could extend to games that are nothing alike.

i am worried about other games that contain "questionable religious content" not beeing released on the WiiU because of it,  which would be a shot in the foot due to the fact that the WiiU is intended to not only  please children and teenagers, but also adults.

There is a difference. There is Mature Content and there is "Disturbing" Content. Two totally different things that you are talking about here.

No. As long as we have the ESRB, i think that nintendo has nothing wrong with a game having "questionable religious Content", they're from japan... the problem for them starts when a game with "questionable religious Content" is put where everyone (seven y/o kids) can reach it. They just don't want to have to give explanations to parents. Y you don't listen Reggie? they are in the process to become a more open platform, they promised us and i trust them.

Nintendo wants mature content to attract mature gamers but not at the cost of their family and casual audience. Nintendo wants and needs games that appeal to every age group without horrifically offending any. A release of a game that offends a large religious group is very damaging.

Nintendo is going to support plenty of mature games. Geist and Eternal Darkness in the past has shown that Nintendo has no problems with releasing mature and even controversial games.

Nintendo wants to sell a console with a mature game for dad, a casual game for mom and a family friendly game for the kids. They want to and need to have this mixture, but if dads mature game offends mom then Nintendo loses a sale. Nintendo does not want to alienate consumers, they want to push the boundaries but not to far.

This is totally standard in the industry. LittleBigPlanet had to be delayed to remove religious content from it. I believe Zelda:OoT also did but I think I also heard this may be a rumour.  With Isaac it simply can't be removed.

Assassin's Creed needs a freaking disclaimer when it starts up in case anyone gets offended that people who belong to a religion are portrayed alongside a ficitious cult/order/religion.

Why is The Binding of Isaac all of a sudden a different situation that forbodes Nintendo being unable to appeal to adults? In fact they were fine with all the violence etc in it.
Would it have been released on PS3 and 360? Hard to say, if it had I'm sure there would have been at least one complaint and Sony and MS would have freaked out.
It's not right that they wouldn't let it go forward however it's totally understandable and I wonder how the other manufacturers would have handled it.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

mature games that are targeted to teenagers?... No thx...

The original run of OoT had the logo of the Gerudo people as the Muslim star and crescent (very similar to how they appear on the Malaysian or Pakistani flags, for instance), sending somewhat the wrong message (Islam = the bad guys), and the original bgm for the Fire Temple had the words "Allahu Akbar" somewhere in them. The second run of OoT had these removed, as has the subsequent remakes (Master Quest, the GC Zelda Collection Disk, VC re-release, and OoT3D)

Haha thanks Mr Khan. I feel like you always come in and give me good info =D. So yea like I said it's nothing new. Religious stuff in games is just a touchy subject.

P.s. I was in Japan for Uni too, later moved back there to work. At the absolute bare minimum you can easily teach English so unemployment should be no worry. Then you just need to charm your way into another industry. Or marry a rich Japanese woman. Or BOTH!

If that's the case then why release Kid Icarus?
