Enough to buy a small farm with 7 sheep. And if I didn't spend it on gaming I would of bought a small farm with 7 sheep.

Easily over 20,000. I probably spend over three grand a year. Maybe even five.

If video games didn't exist? Probably a handgun and a single bullet.
I have no way to calculate over 20 years of gaming purchases. I have own stuff from the Atari era through today. I would have to catalog so much stuff it would take days. Plus there's all the related media like books, artwork, soundtracks, collectables, etc. I've imported games and consoles, bought used and new stuff. There's bargain bin goodies, and DLC stuff. I've built three arcade machines, several computers, shelving, and custom joysticks. I didn't keep receipts so I'd have to try to remember what it all cost or estimate it.
I should catalog, photograph, and record it all for insurance purposes. Stuff like my Panzer Dragoon collection and Working Designs stuff has gotten very rare and worth far more than when I bought them. But like I said it would take so much time I'd lose at least a weekend going though it all.

Three grand a year! I think I spend like 500 a year if I don't buy any console.
Well my parents were really into gaming until it went into 3D (N64) so they bought it all up until then. I have probably spent about £2500 in total. If not on gaming I would have put it into my mortgage deposit fund I guess....

Yeah. I blew around a thousand on the Vita, peripherals, and software alone. I have no doubt that I purchased well over 100 titles in 2011. Gamestop records purchases and you can check them by going to the rewards website. I say I've bought about 60% of my titles from them. The rest from Amazon.com, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Toys R' Us. I'll log in later and tell you exactly what I've spent from just Gamestop in 2012. I actually don't want to know. I'm sure it's at least 1,500.
One hell of a lot. Let's say i averaged $40 per game (most games purchased at full price for home console games, some used, some lesser-priced games), then subtract roughly 30 games from my collection for gifted games, so we go up to about 40*90=3600, then add in those consoles i purchased on my own (which is GC, DS, Wii, 3DS), to get up to about $4500, then maybe another hundred for Virtual Console/eShop
Approximately $4600 out-of-pocket. Actually that's probably very low compared to what some people on here are supposed to get.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
I must have spent around 5000. I would have bought a segway cause it looks cool to me.
