Apparently, Man U's starting 11 in the last 3 games cost more than Man City's.

Ive not done the maths though... But people putting City down for spending mobey are silly.

Rooney.
Young
Ferdinand.
Nani
Smalling
Evra
De Gea
Evans
Carrick
Valencia
Hernandez

Thats just off the top of my head... City arent the only ones who spend Millions upon Millions.

Yes, but to be fair, Manchester United were only able to buy those players due to the success they had with homegrown talent in the 90s, with players such as Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, the Nevilles, Brown, Butt, etc... As well as some later players like Fletcher, Evans, Welbeck, O'shea and so on.

this is pretty naive im afraid.  How many of those "homegrown" players were stolen or tempted from other academies by fair means or foul?

I'll tell you...  lots!

I know of three cases of compensation paid by Man u for "illegal approaches" to players that were in that youth team they developed, two payments were made to my club.

Its never as clear cut as you imagine. Most of those youth players were bought.  Most of the big clubs are guilty of bribery in this, they will flout the 50 mile rule by moving families and providing employment for parents in the locality.

City are also guilty of it too... they always hold Micah Richards up as a homegrown talent... yet he was at Oldhams academy and indeed Oldham have a 25% sell on clause.  At least City did it legitimately in that case.

Of those players I've listed, 8 have been part of the Manchester Utd youth set-up since the start of their career (probably scouted from under-12 teams, which is fair) - one (Giggs) came from another youth set-up within 90km, where Manchester Utd is by far and away the better career choice  - one came from another country (O'Shea) - and the other (Beckham) came from Tottenham.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how this qualifies as 'lots' of other successful players poached from other youth set-ups. Being generous, it's probably about 30%. That is far lower than some clubs I can think of.

I'm not going to pretend that every signing Man Utd has made has been clear cut and on the level, but most of the talent that has come through has  flourished  due to the hard work and resources invested by Man Utd anyway. Man Utd clearly understand the quality that youth players bring to the club and see them as a backbone. That adds a lot of value to the club.

And in unrelated news, it looks like Alex McLeish has been sacked (according to Goal.com). Thoughts?

Great! I can't stand him and Villa have been appalling this season from what I've seen. You must be thrilled.

I really have tried to support him this season, when people had a go at him I tried to counter them with some positives. But after a while I just couldn't defend him any more because there was very little left to defend.

I'm probably happier that he has gone, but Aston Villa's problems run far deeper than McLeish.

Rooney. £27m
Young £20m
Ferdinand £30m (most expensive defender in thr world at the time)
Nani £20m
Smalling £12m
Evra £6m
De Gea £17m
Carrick £18m
Valencia £16m

Thats just off the top of my head... City arent the only ones who spend Millions upon Millions.

add in...

Anderson £20m (!!!!??)

Jones £17m

and numerous others that have truned out to be flops (Bebe, Kleberson, Forlan and veron anyone?  combined fees £50m)

and people can see that United havent brought any really decent players through youth for a very long time and they are a buying club.

the difference is, that city is spending more as the whole revenue is. at least in 2009 they did that. revenue was 100 million euro and they spent 120 million pound for new players.   manu doesn't do that. manu has what? 400 million revenue? if the spend 200 million in a few years and city is spending 160 million with 160 million revenue in one year, it's pretty simple to understand the difference.  can't be so hard to understand...

clubs should get a percentual limit of revenue for player transfers. this would make everything much better and wouldn't be such a joke like it is atm in the premier league.. yes, it is a joke if a cub is obviously spending much more as it is economical sustainable.

Without reading the thread I bet the consense was:

BAMBULE, RANDALE, DORTMUND HAT DIE SCHALE!
RANDALE, BAMBULE, DORTMUND HAT DAS DOUBLE!

is this likely?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2143918/United-chasing-50m-Dortmund-trio-Sir-Alex-eyes-Kagawa-Lewandowski-Hummels.html#ixzz1uobMihzE

i'm pretty sure that kagawa will leave but they won't let hummels go. it's the same they did with götze, arsenal tried to get him for i believe 40 million and dortmund said "nope". lewandowski, no clue...

Actually, Man U is owned by an American billionaire who made his money in food processing industries.

So very disappointing and I'd like to echo Rol's words:
"Celebrating a team like Manchester City is just wrong."

this is just so so so weak.

Man U paid 60m for two players years ago (ferdinand and Rooney)... probably about 80m in todays money.  Utd bought the title many times spent big money on many players, as did Chelsea, as did Blackburn, as did many other teams.

I am not a city fan...

The hypocricy of football fans is funny.  At least the City owbers are building something propery, as anyone (like me) who lives in the area will tell you. massive infrastructure going on (spending hundreds of millions on the surrounding area)  and community projects.  This really is a dynasty being built... live with it.

"bitter red" will be the new phrase to over take "bitter blue" in the coming years.

I think I'll hop in a cab for a night out in manchester tonight...  could be fun.

Have to agree with Kowenicki. This bullshit about buying titles is just that,BS.Manchester United has been doing it for years, and it was all good and dandy. Now that City gets finacial support and win the title it's a problem.Don't care who you buy,u still have to play "FOOTBALL",and this year season was one of the best if not the best.

and Demiter Berbatove (spelling) for £30m , buying stars is a fair game.

Forcing a teams to limit transfers per season wouldn't be a bad rule but I don't think it's gonna happen, and until it happens, we really can't downgrade Man city's victory.
