Forums - Website Topics - Have the members/guest online dropped significantly?

Seem's to me I remember seeing that number doubled a year or two ago. Right now it's 123 online and 2607 guest, I've been checking lately and that number seemed about the same over the week. But a year or two ago I remember the online users to be around 300's and guest hovered around 3 - 4 thousand. Also has there been anytime when VG Chartz got shut down from traffic? that use to happen a lot with the very interesting article we put out, I think the max guest was up to 10,000 one day.

So if my observation is right, whats been going on?

There's over 80,000 users signed up to VG Chartz (I know half those users are Kirbys alts but still) so why can't are users online go up. It's like the sites expanding and getting bigger everyday but the users are dropping?

Looking at a site like neogaf for example you got 74000 members on the site and theres always around 3000 members online and like 4000 guest.

Perhaps the software data of the software they track is directly proportional to the amount of users on the site...
They provide half the data they used to, hence roughly half the users are present...

"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth." -My good friend Mark Aurelius

I remember it being around 100 - 150 users and ~2000 guests when it used to be posted on top of the main page. Haven't really seen ever since 3.0 and I left for like a year, so you may be right.

Either way we definitely aren't growing these days.

I have noticed the average number of members on has seemed to drop for many months. AJ has it about right.

GAF is too crowded if you ask me and is very divided into groups that seem to hang in the same threads.

Its true for sure

A lot of the old school guys like me are leaving the site because it just honestly isn't as compelling as it was in the glory days. Honestly the new users aren't nearly as interesting and there is some heavy anti MS bias in the forums which has always been a problem with keeping a good numbers of 360 fans.

Not to mention the tracking on this site has become poor. Honestly the pre-order numbers are beyond laughably bad.

I dunno, personally, I just haven't found much interesting on the website recently, or much good in the forums, I barely come here much any more

The problem with gaf is that they have 2 forums, you don't have much selection so a lot of threads get lost in the mass of post. But if VG Chartz had that many people it wouldn't be as bad we have 21 different forums to spread out the users, so if we had thousands online it shouldn't be so bad.

Maybe the system's broken?

Of course, but I think the best forum would have at least 3 times the active users of this site has because I do not care for the millions of opinions on GAF (that is why I hardly post there). I really do not expect this site to grow until the Wii U comes out or the Sony and MS consoles. Only a minority of people are interested in the portables. Not to mention this site still seems divided between sales guys, off-topic guys and pure game talk people. Obviously it is not that clear cut, but there is a definate divide already here.

Most of those 80'000 profiles are ghost profiles. They do absolutely nothing, Carl, Montana, and I had a conversation about this before. The sad thing is is that there is no way to get a ghost profile to post, they have to do it on their own terms.
