Didn't Reggie say they were going to be unlike Sony and release everything in 1080p?... Well! Mr. Iwata's views are much different.

So basically Nintendo intends to keep developing cheap casual games, maximize profitability, cash millions, never innovate, and let 3rd parties take all the risks on the core gamers' market. Wait! Isn't that exactly what they're doing on Wii and 3DS? How courageous... |
Reading comprehension fail.
Even worse, Nintendo haven't made a ton of core games for Wii?
Wii series not innovative?
Multiple fails all in one post.
Ok Mr. Iwata, now start working with Silicon Knights and bring a beautiful, fun and scary Eternal Darkness II for the Wii U.
Iwata makes the mistake of equating "glorious, full-blown HD" graphics to photorealism. What the additional power and higher resolution allows developers to do, is achieve a final result closer to their concept art/initial vision. The mentality he should adopt, is that developers work within a budget, and within that budget they should have the graphics fufill their potential (regardless of art style). But what it sounds like, and what nintendo have done in the past, is develop visuals up to a point which they think is acceptable and then go "there, this will do!" their treatment of the pokemon series is strong example of this.
I'm worried because this already sounds like them making excuses for game with visuals similar to wii or old HD titles. Just have a look at "New super mario Mii", its visuals are sub-par and do not do the art style complete justice. Visuals and are a key asset of any gaming experience, they are not be neglected. Not only is it something to be appreciated in isolation but visual feedback has a strong effect on how fun/engaging you perceive a particular action or process to be. Anyone who's played Naruto Ninja storm will know that the fluid animations and gorgeous effects makes the fairly shallow combat, a lot more enjoyable.

I don't smoke I drink... and only on weekends :)
Sorry I should have said "since motion controls"
At least they understand that some games really do need to be given an HD make-over.
Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 looked beautiful even with the awful hardware the Wii offered. I'm confident all of Nintendo's games will look absolutely stunning even with little efforts on graphics; their fenomenal designers will make sure that!
As for F-Zero, Nintendo should once again hand it to Sega though... or maybe Retro Studios. That game needs massive online capabilities and cutting-edge graphics! Probably the game I'm looking forward to the most next generation.

It's not really a mistake since that's how some of the hardcore market thinks.

Investors and gamers are ready to either jump ship or weather the storm with the Wii U. Saying that we are not going to do all games with HD graphics is not what people want to hear right now. Gamers want to hear: Great graphics Strong 3rd party support No game droughts!!! When are our favorite franchises coming out. Gamers do not want to hear: Iwata says they are not in a tech race Not all games will be HD (of course not, they do not need to be, only the ones that count!) Online is going to mediocre. No information at all. Why wait for everything until E3?
So I agree and disagree. I also think that the new Zelda needs to be HD. Why not go all out? Get people excited! |
WHAT?! Iwata said mediocre online? Wow...

You said online is going to be mediocre... sorry about my outburst I'm still recovering from my divorce with MBP.
