Forums - Nintendo Discussion - EGM: Wii is a 1/10 console in 2011 and I agree

I wouldn't quite go that far. Zelda's so good it's worth a couple of points alone, and a couple other little things like Kirby and the downloadable MotoHeroz weren't bad. The year was generally anemic, though.

Around 3/10 seems about right.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

How is a system that sold over 10m a dead system? It still sold very well overall and is just fine for being at the edge of being replaced. ... and zelda ss makes up for any other lack of games.:)

Attitudes like that leave a bad taste in people's mouths when the next generation comes around.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Unfortunately people in the U.S. did not get Xenoblade this year, unless downloaded or imported and played on a modded console of course, but that game is so much better than Skyward Sword. My opinion may change once I get a bit further in SS, but as of right now I don't see that happening. SS hasn't sucked me in like Xenoblade did. That game took over my life for quite a while over the summer.

Xenoblade caused me to touch my Wii again. No pun intended... -__-

oh here we go with the third parties are evil, they are out to get the Wii. Please, Sega has been backing Ninty since GC era, maybe they didnt like how there last couple of games sold? Or maybe they are making a Sonic just for Ninty's new console or they are just too damn busy with episode 2, there are only 2 dev teams for Sonic. Activision put out MW3, there biggest game of the year. Not sure what anyone else would expect. Ubi, still putting out the dance games. Really you can only cry foul for so long. No one really thought 3rd parties would show up with games, when its clear that Ninty is moving on to their newer platforms. I know I wouldnt stick around.

OT a one is kinda harsh, Zelda alone should bump it up a point or two, but I see where they are coming from, you cant have nothing the whole year and drop one game at the end and expect everything to be cool, especially not when the others are releasing hit after hit after hit. But what can they do they dont have infinite resources, could have localized some games faster but hey

Nintendo are neglecting their core fans since their platforms fly off the shelves regardless if the core is happy. Sony kind of did this with the PS2 but people didn't notice since it had great 3rd party support out the wazoo and the occasional great first party title. It seems standard to do this in the industry once you have such a massive sales advantage.

na a little higher then that sorry -5 out of 10-average, driver 5 zelda skyward modernwar fare 3 kirby wii play motion so ya a 5/10 yr 2008 was the worst besides mariokart and ssb there was nothing! so how is this the worst year!

I would give it a 6. Even if the year just consisted of Xenoblade Chronicles, it would be deserving of at least a 3 or 4 IMO. Then we had Skyward Sword, Kirby (2 for PAL), Last Story for Japan. 2011 was by no means a perfect year for the Wii, but it doesn't deserve a 1/10.

Ending on a low note won't sit well with consumers and won't exactly entice customers into getting the Wii U in a hurry. Transitional support is important. Besides, this is exactly what people (like me) claimed that Nintendo would do and its not a good business strategy. Seeing as how Nintendo only have a gaming division to make money off of and might be selling the Wii U at a loss to begin with, it would be pretty damn prudent to keep making money on software on the Wii. How can people not see this?

PS: Saying its a 1/10 console for 2011 is harsh though, Skyward Sword alone raises the score imo.
