I also wonder what Sony will do next gen because I think things will be a lot more different next gen than what we're used to. It's not like we'll be getting 3 consoles that are almost the same like every generations had. This time, the 3 consoles might take different directions. The only one we don't know much about is the PS4.

We know MS will release the next Xbox with a better version of Kinect and because it "should" come out with every consoles every games will build around the new Kinect, just like they did with XBox Live. We also know about Windows 8 that's supposed to bring more life to PC gaming, the new Windows for tablets and phones we'll see how they implement everything together. I don't think we need to worry much for MS, unless we still care for Japan.

On Sony's side... I don't know. No new medium technology needs to be adopted except for onlive gaming but we all know that's not what they want right away.

Motion gaming is already out and full body tracking is already adopted through Kinect.

Making it super powerful? Why? So it is too difficult to develop for again? And costs a lot too? Next gen we'll see even more game engines being reused that what happened this gen with UE3. Graphics are not what sells games, next gen will see not only impressive graphics but we'll come to a point where it'll start to be beautiful enough so people will not care anymore (it has already started)... I'm not talking about fanboys on forums.

I really have no Idea.

Sony made the ps3 difficult to grasp/develop for because they didn't want any developers taking advantage of it too early in it's cycle

even the ps3 dev kits were the most expensive

i remember at Sony's E3 2008(if im not mistaken) they announced that they would cut the ps3 dev kit price's by 80%

Yep sony made it so developers would have to spend a sh-t load of money just to learn how to use the tech and then sell the game after massive loses in development, scaring them over to there competitors.

Thats exactly what sony said when making the PS3.  This is the worst explaination for why the tech was so hard to develope for. Are you kidding because it was funny, If not..........................

Okay, Gran Turismo 6's confirmation has driven me to make this thread

1st and foremost PLEASE GOD LET GT6 BE FOR PS4!!!

Now it is quite obvious that Sony is known for releasing their Playstation platforms IN competition. What do i mean by this you ask? well the 5th generation was already being lead by the Sega Saturn before the PlayStation was brought to the market. The 6th Generation was already being lead by the Sega Dreamcast before the PlayStation 2 was brought to the market and the 7th Generation(present) was already being lead by the Xbox 360 before the PlayStation 3 was brought to the market. PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita included.

eh... ps1 and saturn launched almost simultanously, ps2 was there before xbox and gamecube. the ps3 is the only thing that came late. and btw, the saturn didn't lead anything except price ;)

yes i know but Saturn was still launched before the ps1 at the end of the day :)

and Dreamcast was launched before the ps2 so..

All sounds good in theory, I certainly always argue that each company needs a big hardware pusher at launch, or shortly after. I'm not 100% convinced that GT is the right franchise, because it is made to a very high graphical standard and takes a long time to develop.

I am positive Sony will launch within 2013. I also would bet it will be 3-4x the power of PS3. It will likely be slightly more powerful then the next-box. Much like rumors indicate the nextbox will lack a hard drive instead using cloud. I suspect two models of PS4 will be released one with a hard drive and other more expensive features with a cheaper cloud based model that has less expensive hardware. The console will launch at 350$ to 450$ it will launch at a profit. Sony will incorporate some new innovations in the system.

I suspect Sony will not take any risks with PS4. It will be sold to make a profit it won't blow xbox out of the water to much in an effort to ensure it recieves ports. Sony will do as much as possible to get sales as cheaply as possible. They will likely scrap Move and not bring in a Kinect competitor focusing instead on classic gameplay and adding some unique innovations to the controller.

I think PS4 could very well take out Microsoft early on if they play their cards right. If they launch alongside one another in 2013. Sony could over take Nintendo within two to three years assuming Nintendo does not get a large enough head start. But if Sony doesn't consider Nintendo a competitor they should be able to win.

By not releasing a Kinect or Tablet. They can shave a ton of cost from the hardware making it cheaper to make then Nintendo or Microsofts console. They should be able to turn a big profit off each unit selling at a very competitive price. 350$ at launch and able to cut the price further if the hardware doesn't sell well enough.

but the point was another one... the delay between saturn and psx was ridiculously small and dreamcast was no real competition, as anyone knows. the hardware was not that bad, was overall it was the wii in that generation, speaking of hw-specs. the point is: sony was late *only* with ps3 - with confidence, of course, after dominating the market with psx and ps2. it's nice to see that it turned out otherwise.

My single biggest wish is that PS4 launches together with the NextBox in Nov 2013 because I want them to go head to head in sales without one having an early launch advantage and also I don't want another generation with Playstation fans getting all the bragging rights to having better graphics than Xbox.

hmm i agree with the 2013 part

that way when Sony launches at the same time as the NexBox, Microsoft wont automatically have the upperhand of 3rd party devs developing games on it's system 1st like this gen

and also Nexbox wont have time to build a library of games against sony before they launch. It will strictly be all about the exclusives from jump >:)

and as for the ps3 graphical bragging thing, its basically 50/50 right now but looking at some rumours, it looks like PS4 might just be the more powerful out of the 2 but idk..

but still ps1 launched after the saturn so that would mean that they launched IN competition like i said in the OP

i really dont get the point you are trying to make

and dreamcast was no real competition

umm no

Dreamcast was in fact REAL competition. Sony just made them LOOK like they weren't real competition

the hardware was not that bad, was overall it was the wii in that generation, speaking of hw-specs.

this is where you are incorrect my good sir ;)

the ps3 and 360 are THIS GEN consoles with THIS GEN hw while the wii is a THIS GEN console with LAST GEN hw

in order for the Dreamcast to be the "wii" of the 6th generation, the Dreamcast would have needed to have the same graphics as the Nintendo 64(the best LAST GEN hw at that time)

so the Dreamcast is NOT the "wii" of the 6th generation. The Dreamcast is simply the "Dreamcast" of that generation

;)

sony was late *only* with ps3

this is false information mr. walsufnir

Sonys home console launch history below

5th gen

1st) Sega Saturn

2nd) Playstation 1

3rd) Nintendo 64

6th gen

1st) Sega Dreamcast

2nd) Playstation 2

3rd) Xbox

4th) Nintendo Gamecube

^^ in america the xbox launched like 3 days before the gamecube BUT the Gamecube launched before the Xbox in Japan so im just going by the US launches because i'm in the US

7th gen

1st) Xbox 360

2nd) Playstation 3

3rd) Nintendo Wii

like seriously should i even have to explain this -_-
