Forums - General Discussion - The WWII Thread

Which country do you find the most interesting during the WW2 era??

USA 15 15.96%

Russia 19 20.21%

England 7 7.45%

Germany 44 46.81%

Japan 1 1.06%

Italy 0 0%

France 2 2.13%

Australia 2 2.13%

Canada 1 1.06%

Finland 3 3.19%

Total:94

I decided to make this thread considering this topic interests me a lot.  I have watched countless History Channel and other specials on WW2.  I did a search and pulled up zero WW2 and WWII threads (took me about 2-3 mins since you have to wait 1 min between searches (should be 30 secs max) and I searched too quickly.  Anyways, I have future plans for this op making it better continuously.  I will probably start posting different WW2 clips I find interesting on the internet also.

I have a fondness for German tanks and weapons.  They created many new technological advancements in rocketry, aeronautics, military tactics, and many other areas.  The Russians of course cranked out the T-34 like crazy  (I'll add more info on that later) to steam roll Germany in the end with some help from the other Allies.  You also have the Holocaust.  Hitler was a mad man who was methed out and later suffered from possibly Parkinson's, syphilis, or both.  Interesting fact is that Stalin killed more people than Hitler.

I used Russia in the poll even though they were technically the Soviets/Soviet Union.  Sorry if this offends anyone but I don't feel like resetting the poll.

Care to bring up any topic concerning the WW2 era.

Saw this video earlier of German Paratroopers blowing the shit out of tanks with anti-tank weapons.  Apparently, they didn't have enough...

This video has some nice German tank footage and is the Panzerlied song. There is a high quality one but I decided to post this one with English subtitles.

German propaganda footage of paratroopers taking on Sherman tanks.

Sorry, you would have to make a WW1 thread which I also find interesting.

That's not a bad idea at all. I would much prefer to talk about a war we actually won.

The Napoleonic wars? Hah.

Thread supermarked. WW2 was spectacular

How did you guys win WWI? Your empire kinda went bye bye after it.

USA was the most interesting. The atomic bomb> any technical achievement made by anyone at the time.

Losing a few key Jewish scientist due to Nazi ideology didn't help Germany in the race for the nuclear bomb.  That came back and bit the Axis Powers right in the ass.

In terms of the lasting effects of the 2nd World War, I would have to say I find the effects on the European colonial empires the most interesting. In particular, the U.K emerging victorious and without being occupied (excluding the Channel Islands), but being economically broken and haven run up huge debts (over 200% of GDP). Decolonisation is of course another important and interesting effect, during the post-war era.

Funny. Considering that the United Kingdom and Canada helped considerably in creating the atomic bomb for the United States, it wasn't just purely an American effort.

Plus the Soviets, Germans and Japanese already had their own Nuclear projects underway, the Western nations just happened to beat them to the punch by allocating more resources and working closesly with each other.

Hell... Even Albert Einstein was German-born, who contributed greatly to the manhatten project, the race to build Nuclear weapons might have been very different if Einstein never left Germany.

Of course Finland! We fought against the red giant two times (Winter war , Continuation war ) and still managed to keep our independense.
