Remember that, before you get too invested in this, at the moment the news is entirely unconfirmed. We've contacted Bethesda for comment and clarification, and will update if we hear back.

Yeah I just read that there. Seems to be legit seen as Rage was a massive overhyped disappointment.

If this news is proven to be right, and this is a big if, then ID has clearly no idea what they're doing anymore. Just because a new, unproven IP did poorly, they're going to postpone their major IP? Not accounting for the legions of Doom fans on the PC, Doom 4, if done properly (unlike that ungodly mess that was Doom 3 for the Xbox), could also bring a lot of fans to the consoles.

Current PC Build

CPU - i7 8700K 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz turbo) 6 cores OC'd to 5.2 GHz with Watercooling (Hydro Series H110i) | MB - Gigabyte Z370 HD3P ATX | Gigabyte GTX 1080ti Gaming OC BLACK 11G (1657 MHz Boost Core / 11010 MHz Memory) | RAM - Corsair DIMM 32GB DDR4, 2400 MHz | PSU - Corsair CX650M (80+ Bronze) 650W | Audio - Asus Essence STX II 7.1 | Monitor - Samsung U28E590D 4K UHD, Freesync, 1 ms, 60 Hz, 28"

i feel like Battlefield is going to follow suite on this overhyped disappointment stuff.

I second that... I predict a sharp dropoff in sales after the initial launch when the game fails to live up to it's "Call of Duty killer" marketing hype.

As for Rage... I thought it did pretty good considering it's a brand new IP, and that it's a shooter being released during the fall deluge where there's a ton of other shooters vying for the spotlight.  We just had Gears 3, and in a couple weeks we're getting BF3, then Uncharted 3 and MW3.  It's more of a "sleeper hit" type game than a blockbuster multi-million selling game.  Plus, from what I've read, the bug-filled PC version's launch really hurt it with alot of id's fans.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

When I saw the sales of Rage I thought it did great =p. In a period with so many game releases and especially hyped sequels they expected Rage would do what?

The sales seem fine for a new IP, on par with games like Dead Island and Homefront, but its pretty obvious the development of Rage was far more demanding, maybe thats why it didn't meet sales expectations. It had all the makings of an AAA game.

iD just has to figure out that a fancy new graphics streaming engine does not a truly exceptional game make. As others have said, Rage did well for what it is, but likely iD's expectations were warped by their own hype

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Doom 4 does not equal Rage. wtf

Wow, very unfortunate. A lot of gamers don't know what they're missing. I just started playing RAGE and it's amazing!!!

I expected it to sell more, but I guess they had a problem marketing it in a world with so many shooters, especially post apocalyptic ones.
