Hey Everyone.  :)

The PS3 is one of the only game platforms out this gen that offer everything you can ask for in a multimedia device. Blu-ray, Bluetooth, Web browser, A free and good online service, Great Selection of exclusive games, PSN Home, Native 3D, and Motion Gaming.

That being said, Sony has had a real struggle at the first 1-2 years of the PS3 mainly due to the lack of good quality games and the high price point it had. The PS1/PS2 were by far the besting selling consoles out of its competitor's. They had enormous 3rd party support from publishers, and they both attracted gamers from all ages and countries.

Now as we look at this gen, The PS3 3rd party support has dropped really low as far as exclusives are concerned. Its Fanbase/audience is now smaller than before. And now it is currently the least sold console and the world this gen which is very suprsing since Sony was on Top of the pack 2 gen's in a row.

Do yall think Sony could have made the PS3 more succesful like its predecessors if they made a few other changes as far as appeal and features...

Did Sony fail to live up to the hype with the PS3 or Did the PS3 Fail Sony...

And Why Do yall think the PS3 is at the postion it is in right now...

Let's get one thing established right away... Consumers failed Sony!

As already stated. Consumers did

Had sony launched with all that, it may have been a different story. But sadly online was far from good at first, bluray masses didn't care about, good exclusive games took 2-3 years to start coming, price was too high...

Also PSN home, Native 3D and motion gaming are kinda half assed efforts and wouldn't make any difference even if available from day 1.

It was clearly the pricepoint and the selection of games on offer. Look at the ps1/ps2 launch game titles and they were much more compelling than the initial titles on offer on the ps3.

I dont think (as some do) that consumers failed sony. Consumers will always buy what interests them and sony had to give them something they wanted. The ps3 initially had a lot of problems and the price was too high. Also the initial problems with backwards compatibility and the lack of it in the slim skus means that people who love their ps2 games have been unwilling to switch to  ps3 cos they wont be able to play it - which is why the ps2 still so very popular (>1million sales this year).

However, i dont think sony failed their fans. In their efforts to make up, they have delivered some great IPs this gen and i dont think anyone can doubt the value of the ps3.

Yeah. They really screwed it up. Way too expensive, not enough done to get exclusive support on the machine, and they let Microsoft take the market they wanted.

Years later though, and they're recovering. If they do the same next gen, then say goodbye to PlayStation home consoles.

Sony pre-2008 was probably one of the dumbest publishers I've ever seen, they made so many obvious mistakes and they couldn't market themselves out of a Beverly Hills mall. Sony and the PS3 is one and the same, it was both the hardware and the companies decisions when it came to software, marketing and pricing that hurt the PS3 early on.

The Sony of today is much better, but they still struggle with marketing, which seems to be their fatal flaw. You can release 50 games, but if no one knows they exist then they might as well not have been made.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Couldn't have been more well said. The only games they really hyped were God of War 3, Uncharted 2 and they hyped the hell out of Killzone 2. Wonder why there wasn't much hype for GT5. With all the hype they could have had about 3 million week 1.

I have the PS3.
I'm happy with it.

So... for me the answer is NO.

i know people are getting sick of hearing this but it's time to get real!

THE PRICE KILLED PS3!

and that's that!

ps1 AND ps2 both launched at $299

everybody was able to get a ps1 and ps2 at that price especially the teen's who actually BUY all types of game's!

the ps3 launched at $599 IN A RECESSION so ONLY the people who had money like that could get ahold of the ps3 (and of course those people dont buy game's on a regular basis like teen's). the teen's who actually BUY game's couldn't get ahold of it that easily at that price point especially in this recession

but it does not stop there..

they had a very aggressive competitor in the generation as well that aimed to take PlayStation's market. The competitor bought out exclusive's and paid for certain game's and feature's to not be on the Playstation for a certain amount of time after it released on that specific competitor's console(6-12 month's depending on the game and feature).

but the thing that held ps3 back was that price point, ESPECIALLY IN AMERICA.
