Forums - Sony Discussion - Should Sony get rid of Zipper?

Should Sony get rid of Zipper? I have been thinking about this for a while now. They haven't put out the best games lately, and are dealing with layoffs. MAG wasn't the best, and SOCOM 4 got below average reviews. Sony should try to restructure the studio or something because the Zipper acquisition is looking like a waste of money.

So VGChartz, should Sony get rid of Zipper?

nah I think they should make them focus on something else....maybe make games just for PSV and use the device functionality to support their gaming concepts fully. 'runs away before fans of socom tactically kills me' :P

The LAST thing SONY should be doing is getting rid of 1st party studios, it will need them alot in the future.

Now Zipper is experienced in making online games....online is all the rage, SONY need to help Zipper get out a big title for PS3/PSV with cross multiplayer etc....make a system seller for PSV and simulteneously make it a title PS3 owners may wanna check out.

This is the time for SONY to start making new Uncharted level power franchises as it can do that (Gran Turismo level power is very rare to make).

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

They should get rid of evolution studios first... >_>

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Sony? Nomura works for Square-En... oh.

No...just tell Zipper to listen to their fans and improve upon SOCOM II.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Naw, I say give them one more chance. MAG did OK. I don't think they expected it to sell much. S4 was a failure, yes. But that was because Zipper tried to make a game they had not business making, not because of lack of talent. They tried togo casual and they failed.... Miserably

I say give them one more chance to show their talents by making a true SOCOM Game. I say let them make a SOCOM game on the NGP. It's the perfect oppurtunity for them to prove their talent. Their psp games were great and I'm sure their games on the NGP would be even better due to dual analog sticks.

However, if they try to go casual AGAIN, then Sony should dump them.

Why shouldn't Sony get rid of 1st party studios? They have enough to outpace Nintendo and Microosft by a long shot.

Zipper could make a decent online-focused game with cross play, and I would get it. What I'm worried about though is whether they can make that game good. MAG was underwhelming, and SOCOM has been going downhill, so I'm not so sure about that.

Of all the studios Sony has, the most likely  studio that I think could make a system selling game is Naughty Dog. They just need to push Uncharted, and it'll be at GT's level.

I would also add Santa Monica to this

Absolutely not. Even with SOCOM 4 not blowing up the charts like some of us hoped, anything can be improved upon, and they have enough titles under their belt (including SOCOM 2 & MAG) that have a strong enough following to improve on what's there.

If anything, maybe Zipper just needs a new direction, perhaps a bigger budget, but certainly not a disbanding.

Well if a developer isn't really showing results, sometimes you do have to trim the fat. Personally I don't know what happened to Zipper, they were once great.
