What a crappy company. If you think about Sony, all they do is make their fans wait. Wait for PS3, wait for games, wait for updates, wait , wait , wait for more.

Making us wait for a free service that we don't pay for. Them sons a bitches.......

You realize this has also affected all their MMOs that people DO pay for?

EQ, EQ2, DCUO, Vanguard, SWG and more are all down until further notice.

And those people are recieving credit for lost time. So what exactly is the problem?

Seriously dude? LOL

Uhh Yeah i'm serious. It's not the end of the world if people can't play some MMOs. I've had to deal with my fair share of down times from MMOs due to outages. Just recently I couldn't play FFXI or FFXIV for quite a few weeks but I wasn't throwing a tantrum over it. Sony isn't going to charge people for time they aren't playing.

Your original point is that people shouldn't be upset because PSN is free (even though some people pay for PSN Plus), but then you also say they shouldn't be upset even if they DO pay for a service because they are just being babies?  You can't fathom how someone has the right to get upset that something they are paying for isn't working?  It doesn't matter if you don't pay for the time it's down, that much is blatantly obvious, but if my internet access was taken away for 2 weeks or a month I wouldn't be sitting there going "oh well, c'est la vie!", I'd have ever right to get upset.

"It's not the end of the world if people can't play some MMOs" - yeah, the world doesn't end, but it doesn't mean you should just tell people to stop whining and just appreciate that world hasn't ended.  Maybe someone who gets only 2 weeks off of work every year planned to spend it playing an MMO.  Maybe someone who isn't capable of leaving the house due to illness or a handicap plays MMOs are their sole source of recreation.  No, they should just keep their mouths shut and be thankful Sony loves them so much to produce great games, am I right?  *rolls eyes*

I'm not saying people shouldn't be disappointed because they definitely have the right to be. However getting pissed off, and calling the company insulting names doesn't solve the issue here. People are forgetting what Sony has done for them with the PS3s free servers. Now because this happened they are just evil bastards. This entire thing sucks, we all know that.

You lack perspective. I've played a few MMOs over the years. A large part of the MMO community only plays that game. So their MMO of choice being down is a huge deal.

The thought the consumers should thankful to Sony is laughable. They are not some benelovent presence bestowing free gaming for all. Simply put those consumers bought Sony's game platforms and software for that platform with the idea that they'd have access to online features. Now if their PS3's, games, and SOE MMO's were completely free, you'd have a point they aren't.

Well, ok, your first point is fair enough.  I agree it's not necessary to be calling the company names although in this case I feel the anger (or at least massive annoyance) is justified.

You lose me on your second point though and this is my main gripe with some people's mentality.  "People are forgetting what Sony has done for them".  Sony hasn't DONE anything for people.  They made a business decision, plain and simple.  They don't offer PSN free out of the goodness of their corporate hearts.  It's a tactical move to try to get them to sell more PS3s, that is all.  After seeing how much money Microsoft is making off of Live you can bet they are thinking long and hard about whether online will be free next gen.  You're already seeing it with PSN Plus.

People just need to realize that corporations don't love you, they are just trying to make as much money as possible.  The same is true for Microsoft and Nintendo.  Publicly traded companies primary responsibility is to their shareholders, not their customers.  That's not to say there aren't people throughout the corporate structure, developers etc, who try to do things for "the fans" and who care about their customers (I've met some of them), but things like free PSN are done with an eye to the bottom line, not because of some higher noble purpose.

Indeed, PSN is not a charity. It is a business. They don't get a free pass just because they use a different business model. Google is 'free' to users, but they make a ton of money as a business. If Google had most of its data stolen and went down for three weeks, they would probably never fully recover. Nobody would give them any sympathy because what they were offereing was 'free'.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Excellent point.  Could you imagine if gmail, hotmail or yahoo mail were hacked and people private emails were exposed?  No one would care that it was a "free" service.

Have people forgot that the FBI and Homeland Security, as well as 2 third party security firms are investigating this whole mess?  I'm sure Sony is going to have to wait for them to finish the investigation and give the go ahead to launch the new and improved PSN.  I mean they have already announced they are finished with it, it's just going through final testing.  Yes, it may be another week or so, but so what?  It's just going to be that much more secure in the end.  And it's not like it's going to hurt the PS3's sales.  Last week's numbers prove this.

The PS3 sales were down 8%....

largely buoyed by Japan, who was in the middle of a holiday based around shopping,(I believe) and as shown by the low PSN accounts to not care about online.

American sales dropped by 16%

And Xbox 360 sales dropped 9%, with no online crisis.

And no exclusives.

Agreed. Just because you don't pay a monthly premium doesn't make a service free. There's always a cost that usually consumers end up shouldering.

Here's hoping when the network is back up it's better than ever. I honestly feel like they know the network is capable of going back up without any faults, but are taking extra time to make sure its 110% capable of keeping any intruders out. If I was in Sony's position right now i'd be scared sh*tless. If the network gets hacked and pulled down again, I honestly feel that it could be the end of Sony's game division in a lot of ways..

Proud owner of the PSone original, PSone slim, PS2 slim, PS3 slim, PSP-3000.

37 PS3 games and counting.

Yeah, and it's likely one of the reasons they're taking their time with it.  It better be foolproof when it comes back online. I think people will get forgive it the first time.  If it happens again though....

Which shows how bad the PS3 drop was.  That's a whole extra 7% drop on a system you'd expect to hold up better.

If you thought it was going to be a 50% drop.  That's just silly.  There could be a report saying the PS3 kills babies and the console isn't going to drop 50%.
