Forums - Sales Discussion - 3 regions... 3 different winners by gen end?

I think Nintendo will hold on to America, and EMEAA for sure. It is hard to tell if they will lose Japan either.

I don't think you can count it that way.

If so, the GC outsold the Xbox - but only because it was sold dirt cheap for two more years after Xbox was off shelves having been replace by 360.

Once the new Wii (or whatever it's called) comes out, it's cased close.  Wii won all three regions.

That's messy of course, but that's the way it tends to go.

How do you fiqure ps3 will take japan? Its so far back.

That would be interesting but I can't really see it happening. Most of the rumors about the Wii 2 so far suggest a late 2012 release date and I think at least one of MS or Sony would release another console in 2013. I would say the only way I can see it happening is if the Wii 2 launches this year and Nintendo completely drop support for the Wii. I would say the best chance the Wii has of losing a region is in Japan and I think PS3 would need to be around for a long time, and maybe get a couple of big exlcusive games like a Monster Hunter or Dragon Quest to have a chance at completely clsoing the five million gap.

I do agree that the final sales in each region will be a lot closer than they are now.

Depends if the Super Wii releases this Year or next Year really...

If it releases this Year and has specs that are similar to the PS3/360, I feel that the PS3/360 could possibly keep going for another 2 (3 Max) Years without a successor.

If so, then we could see America and EMEAA fall... But I doubt the PS3 will catch the Wii in Japan, the lead is too much there and without big games like Dragon Quest/Monster Hunter the PS3 just wont reach the Wii's potential 12 Million plus. At least, IMO anyway...

Honestly speaking, I have to give it up to 360 this generation, since it increased marketshare, started producing an ROI (Profit), and gained 3rd party support. The next 360 could rival whoever might be winning the next generation (WW) in NA market (Might even win that region, but not WW). Nintendo is a beast this generation, but to not compliment 360 on the accomplishment even with it being my least favorite console right now, would be understatement. Sony I would compliment based on what it has accomplished in terms of me being fan, but as business goes, it is a very broken business model.

14 Microsoft Xbox (XB) 16.34 0.53 7.78 24.65
15 Nintendo GameCube (GC) 12.94 4.04 4.77 21.75

eh?

Hey! Don't use hard facts to discount my arguement, that's just rude!  (Serves me right for not doublechecking my facts though)

Regardless, the generation is generally considered ended once the first next gen system comes out.   By that standard Wii will almost certain have won every region.    For example, we don't compare 360 sales to PS2's in Japan even though between 2006-2010 PS2 outsold it 3.15m to 1.36m (yeah, I checked this one).   Why? Because it doesn't matter how many PS2's sold, that's last gen.  360 is considered to be competing with PS3/Wii.

It's true though that if Nintendo abandons Wii and it's sales tank and PS3/360 are around long enough, they may eventually pass Wii's total sales in those regions, but who cares?  By that time the new Nintendo system will be selling millions of units (presumably) and (most likely) outselling PS3/360 anyway.      That's kind of like Mike Tyson beating the crap out of Mohammed Ali and expecting to be cheered for it.   Saying you beat someone who's retired from the game is no accomplishment.  Showing you can go toe-to-toe with the new kid would be.

No, wii will win everything. The others are just too far back.

Time for hype

US will be Xbox360 to complete with it, PS3 is impossible at US region, but EMAA & japan will be the other way round as Xbox360 is impossible, PS3 will be a possible to over take it when current gen ended, especially japan...

I think Wii will end up winning all markets, though by a much smaller margin than most people thought a couple of years ago.
