I don't think you can count it that way.

If so, the GC outsold the Xbox - but only because it was sold dirt cheap for two more years after Xbox was off shelves having been replace by 360.

Once the new Wii (or whatever it's called) comes out, it's cased close.  Wii won all three regions.

That's messy of course, but that's the way it tends to go.

14 Microsoft Xbox (XB) 16.34 0.53 7.78 24.65
15 Nintendo GameCube (GC) 12.94 4.04 4.77 21.75

eh?

Hey! Don't use hard facts to discount my arguement, that's just rude!  (Serves me right for not doublechecking my facts though)

Regardless, the generation is generally considered ended once the first next gen system comes out.   By that standard Wii will almost certain have won every region.    For example, we don't compare 360 sales to PS2's in Japan even though between 2006-2010 PS2 outsold it 3.15m to 1.36m (yeah, I checked this one).   Why? Because it doesn't matter how many PS2's sold, that's last gen.  360 is considered to be competing with PS3/Wii.

It's true though that if Nintendo abandons Wii and it's sales tank and PS3/360 are around long enough, they may eventually pass Wii's total sales in those regions, but who cares?  By that time the new Nintendo system will be selling millions of units (presumably) and (most likely) outselling PS3/360 anyway.      That's kind of like Mike Tyson beating the crap out of Mohammed Ali and expecting to be cheered for it.   Saying you beat someone who's retired from the game is no accomplishment.  Showing you can go toe-to-toe with the new kid would be.
