Forums - Sales Discussion - *Where Would Gaming Be If Wii Failed?*

Even if it were true that Sony was developing the move before the wii came out, what exactly does that mean?

Let me say that I'm sure it took more than a year to develop the Wii, so it could be said that Nintendo was developing the Wii before Sony was developing the move.

As far as motion gaming goes, before the move, before even the wii. GBA had two games that had tilt controls. Eye toy may be running with the video capture but aside from webcams- motion gaming was around since 2004.

Take out the PS Move and Kinect.

Add on 10/15 Million to PS3/360.

There you go.

it would suck cause there would be no hardcore meltdown, that alone has entertained me as much as any game this gen

Everyday I'm hustlin'.

Wii and DS owner.

Well, by now, the industry would have collapsed and Sony and MS would be playing "Who Pulls the Plug on Video Games First?" in the home console market, with most notable third parties bankrupt.

Don't think that you are too far off.  If you eliminated the majority of the Wii's sales and all of the Media support for the gaming community, you would be seeing top end sales of something like this:

Wii - 25M

360 - 55M

PS3 - 50M

I think the Wii pushed all of the consoles up, and the Kinect/Move will ride its back to push the 360/PS3 up too(just not as much).

Maybe Kinect could exist since it is a obvious evolution of the Eye Toy concept.

Move wouldn't exist, thats 100% sure.

Also, I think I wouldn't be gaming too.

To be honest without Nintendo, we'd have nothing but Call of Duty and Halo.

We would be in a pretty similar place, I'd imagine.

No Move.  No Kinect.  Total home console sales would be down from where they are now.  Total consoles sold this generation would be lower than last generation.  Less games sold, possibly by a lot.

Edit:  There would be a possibility of seeing something similar to Kinect, but it would not be out yet, and the push behind it would be substantially less when it did come.  Possibly at the start of next gen or later.
