rukusa said: I believe that letting Moore go was one fatal mistake from Microsoft's side. The man is fully responsible for where the 360 stands now. He's got the initiative that lead them on their way to succes. His aggressive moves, made MS grab titles from Sony's side makeing them only available on the 360 system or shared with PS3. Without him, and his advances the department will suffer a loss in 2008. I remember the 2 years before the PS3 & Wii got released, Microsoft flaunted their games excessively. And this year? Main surprises were Ninja Gaiden 2... and scene it? what the hell? Or, Microsoft could be keeping the cards close to themselves of course. But either way, without Peter Moore xbox department will lack direction. I dont think for a moment that Shane Kim will be able substitute the kind of charisma and salesmanship as Moore portraited. |
First off it was Peter Moore showing off Scene It at MS's press Confrence at E3, so if you don't like that selection blame him. Secondly Scene It has already sold 120,000 copies with literaly no drop from week to week, which proves it wasn't a bad choice.
Secondly Moore hasn't left so long ago, they had plenty of press leading up to the release of Halo 3, Mass Effect, Japan's Lost Odyssey. And they are selling software quite well, and for the season they are still on Moore's templete, so I'm not entirely sure what you expect to see right now. No one is having press conferences in December about what's big next year, right now it's selling time and they're letting the released titles do there jobs.
The real test is next E3 and the next christmas season that will be the judge of how M$ does without him. And even then it's hard to say game production is mostly done in 2 year cycles so alot of Peter Moore's deals will still bear fruit in '08.
then you have to consider Moore failed in alot of ways, he failed at broadening the market, he failed at getting a jump on the more casual market, he failed in japan. Let's face it Lost Odyessey's sales, are failing get Japan's attention. In my mind it's clear he tried to come up with a second rate Sony line-up to beat them at their own game, while Japan thrives on innovation, DS and Wii sales prove a couple of real neat cheap inventive games could have opened the Japanese market place with more success the the expensive new IPs. It shows how MS as a company is always afraid to explore new territory, they are always jumping on other peoples trains.
And again I'm not trying to knock the 360, I own it and love it. I actually think it was smart to let Bungie go, they'll get their new IP and they'll keep Halo exclusive, and they get to save money and allow Bungie their own creative freedom, I think it's a bold win-win. I also think they have plenty of aces up their sleeve, people keep acting like next year MS has nothing, it has alot of potentially huge games. And many more I'm sure that we'll find out about soon. In fact with Lost Odyessy, GTA, Mercenaries 2, Burnout: Paradise and other strong titles in the line-up prior to E3 I think MS will keep their mouth shut at least until GDC or E3 and then they'll start dropping bombs, and when that comes alot of other games hype will be old news. Honestly with so many titles launched this year and so many of next years titles already boasted, they will without doubt have the worst E3 next year. Nintendo and MS have been very hush hush of their future, which will give them alot to say at E3.
