I agree with a lot of your points although disagree with a few.

1.) I doubt that the psp2 will use disc based media.

2.) I don't think brand name has as huge of an influence as some give it credit for. Look at the rise of the xbox , and the fall of the playstation brand. Casuals do not buy based on name, but price and games that suit their preferences. Also, what is seen as cool.

WHAT!?

You have #2 completely backwards.  Do you ever wonder why everything has i in front of it?  Because people that don't know any better or are uninformed buy almost stritcly off of brand name or what they've heard of.  Parents have heard of Nintendo, Mario, Zelda, Brain Age, Nintendogs, DS, etc.  The 3DS could be crap in a box at $300 and it will sell based purely off of those things

Look what happened to Nintendo. Last place last gen. Now first place. Brand name? No. Playstation, 1st place last gen, last place this gen. Brand name? No. Xbox, 2nd place last gen, 2nd place this gen but with doubled sales. Brand name? No.

You're only  looking at a small piece of the puzzle, not the whole thing.  Playstation is popular among the hardcore gamers.  It was for the PS2 and it is for the PS3.  Nintendo products are popular among children and parents.  They were for the Gamecube and they are for the Wii.  Furthermore, the Wii and DS are popular among the casual.

You're talking about the hardcore and I'm completely ignoring them.  They don't matter much for this.  The people that are going to buy the majority of those systems are parents, children, and the casuals.  Nintendo wins with all three of those.

Let's see: Pokemon (nuff said?), Monster Hunter (possibly), Metal Gear Solid,Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Nintendogs cats, and SUPER MARIO?

...nah PSP2 doesn't have a chance.

"things" - plural, meaning that AND the stellar game lineup - those games individually will probably outsell most other gaming franchises around

How does the 3DS have an awesome launch line-up other than Professor laton? Yeah some good games are coming later but not at start...

That's a reasonable opinion.  But how do you think those games will do at retail?  Look beyond your own personal tastes, how do you think many of those game will perform?

You may not buy a 3DS for Nintendogs, but...

I will not buy any of those games from the launch line-up. They look like garbage to me. Their are ones later I would get though.

Right.  But "unfortunately", people don't base their game system purchasing decisons based on Wagram's own personal preference in games.

You're stating that another reason why the PSP2 has a chance at dethrowning the 3DS is becuase the 3DS has a lackluster launch line-up.  I'm just pointing out why that logic is problematic.

You should check out the sales history of Nintendogs, the Pro Evo series, and Professor Layton (which you've mentioned).

Street Fighter IV, Samurai Warriors, and Ridge Racer have the potential to be moderate hits.

The only questions marks are Battle of Giants: Dinosaur Strike and Puzzle Bobble 3D.

I disagree. The casuals most definately bought the ps2 alongside the hardcore simply because it was the most popular.

No, it has no chance. The Sony we once knew as the leader in technology, always in front is way behind in everything they do. The Psp2 might be a great product, but the brand is hurting badly in the big markets. Hopefully they sell halfof the 3DS and I'll be happy.

tbh I'm a HUGE fan of the PSP BUT I like and have a DS too, so in other words I like handhelds in general a lot.

on the 3DS, I'm VERY disappointed with the launch line up and even most of the games that are said to be coming. I have around 3 games that I would love to play from it from what 20 odd titles announced? The Two Layton games being two of them cuz I absolutely adore that franchise.

Even games like DOA. I don't like DOA series in general tho I am a huge fan of the genre. I see comments saying how amazing it looks and such but in to me personally, PSP has equal good looking 3d fighters already even. and from what I read the using stylus to choose attacks? (correct me if this is a misunderstanding on my part) but the controls doesn't sound that good

I want to see this 3D effect for myself to judge but at this moment that is the only that interests me greatly (other than Layton)

Ninty missed a big chance here by only following the psp layout and including one nub and not two. This limits the experience big time in some genre (shooters for exaple)...I would be pissed big time if Sony doesn't put two numbs in PSP2

I also think if PSP2 can target certain gamers they can pull ahead. COD/KZ on the go or a game like WOW on the go would be amazing.  Also from the line up of games to 3ds, I hear the argument that Ninty has now games to target games that PSP used to target, which I see as an opportunity for Sony actually. This just means the differentiation that used to be there might be no more. and with the right price point, Sony can have a winner on their hands.

Overall it will take few years to see what will do better and such. But I sincerly hope BOTH do well.
