What will be the best selling console of 2010? This may come as a surprise to some of you but the Wii sold the most units in 2010. According to VGChartz the YTD figures for 2010 are:

Will Kinect boost 360 sales enough to even overtake PS3? Will Move have ps3's flying off the shelves by christmas? Is Nintendo going to sell millions of Wii's again during the holidays?

I think Wii will comfortably 'win' with 360 and PS3 to sell pretty much the same amount of units.

I'll agree with you that Wii will obviously win for the year. Actually the current positioning is basically locked in. Even if Kinect is huge PS3's lead, current momentum, and GT5 will be too much for 360 to close the YTD gap. And obviously I don't see PS3 beating Wii in the holidays. I'd say the more interesting question is who will come out on top in EMEAA for the year. :edit: By holidays I mean December.

wii followed by the ps3.  360 far behind both. theres no way it'll catch the ps3 now and even if it somehow manages to get close GT5 will make sure it doesnt happen. that if sony ever release the fucking thing!

PS3 has to make up 900,000 or so units. I don't think it'll do that.

i dont think so. i think microsoft are making a big mistake and it will bite them in the ass in the LONG RUN. remember the capitals. i expect kinect itself to do well initially but in the end microsoft will be back to square 1, cutting the price of the 360 to hold the ps3 back from taking over in install base, which is inevitable. always was, even with the ps3's shitty launch and first year. ps3 was always gonna outsell xbox 360 in the end.

Wii should take it, and despite PS3 and 360 having the cool new peripherals the tradition of Wii getting a bigger lift out of the holidays could extend that lead.

Interestingly over the time PS3 has been on the market the pattern has been for PS3 and 360 to alternate between which system comes second in a calendar year. Unless Kinect shifts an incredible number of 360s for MS this could be the first year PS3 comes second 2 years running. Kinect is still such an unknown quantity in terms of ability to sell 360s. I think it'll sell well in itself, but whether it'll drive 360 sales to the point that it takes the worlwide weekly lead on a consistent basis is something else.

With price cuts coming for all 3 consoles in 2011 it'll be interesting, but with PS3 still being seen as the expensive console (because it lack a $200 or less sku) a price cut for PS3 could give it the bigger sales boost and hence PS3 could be the number 1 console for 2011.

Someone needs to bump that thread predicting Kinect would make 360 the number 1 selling console for the rest of the generation. It's always good to serve a bit of crow from those threads, it's just we don't yet know who's going to be eating it.
