Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Standard controllers

I was round at my mate's house on friday playing on the PS3, Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 and also played Mario Kart with the Standard Classic Controller, and i was thinking to myself, as much as i like the standard controller how prehistoric it now feels to the Wiimote and Nunchuk, i feel more in the game like with Pro Eviolution Soccer, the Twin Consoles might have the graphics, but the wii version you have so much control over the play.

I no some people still like the Standard controller, i also think both control methods will both play as big apart as each other in the future, where like games we see now have more than one control method and give people an option to play the game with there prefered choice of control.

Who else thinks this about the Wiimote and Nunchuk, and what do you like more about the motion controls than the Standard control, or vice versa

Let me put it this way, when I played Dead Space last year I constantly thought about how much better the game could have been with RE4 Wii style controls rather than on my dualshock3

Your major problem is that you dont have fifa...

You're right though pro evo controls on wii are tight, and it would be nice to have both options really

This is one of the main reasons I'm hoping that the move gets the option to adapt Wii's controls for the PES series, from what I've seen, the game is immense.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I like having the controller broken into two parts.

I just wish there was not a wire connecting the two.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

until motion controls can be PROPERLY adapted for ALL genres of games the standard controller is still the best

It's really hard for me to go back to dinosaur controllers.  The use of the pointer as well as it being in two pieces is such an improvement.  The only game I still prefer with the old controllers is BRAWL.  I even prefer the Wiichuck for Monster Hunter Tri.  My classic controller pro is used exclusively for VC games.

I played MH Tri with CCPro and was fine with it. I also still often play GC games and have no problem with that. Just half an hour ago I've finished Okami on Wii and my hands were aching, plus the nunchak evading did not work properly. RE4 is miles better on Wii than on dual analog controllers, and so are any games where point-and-click controls are an advantage (like advetures and RTS, I'd love to see more of those on Wii). And FPS - dual analog controllers would suck so hard when compared to wii if the aiming was manual.

Overall, I think both have their advantages. I can imagine that there will be something like wii controllers in the future, only with more buttons and two analog sticks which would both be clickable (no idea why Nintendo never had a controller with those - do they break more often or what?). Stuff like that. Can't wait to see the evolution in game controllers actually. Next generation will be interesting.

Honestly, to me the only good thing to come from motion controls that I miss when coming back to standard ones is the pointer because it makes console games closer to PC ones in the way you handle them. Using the analog to move aim around in Uncharted 2 makes my balls hurt knowing how shooters play on the PC or on a proper Wii game.

Besides this, there is some innovative uses, yes, like handling corners on a racing game and inclining platforms and such in NSMBWii. Still most Wii games use waggle as an extra button anyways, and a bad one to have that is. I'd prefer Mario to spin around in Galaxy pressing Y instead of shaking the Wiimote. And why waggle you arm around playing a fake Tennis when you could have the real thing.

That's just my opinion on it anyways. Maybe it could be changed by fullbody and more precise controls next gen (a mix of Kinect and Move maybe?). I recon it should become the standard of sorts in the future.

I still mostly prefer standard controllers. I can't imagine playing FIFA with the Move, especially as it is so near to perfection with the Dual Shock 3

I can understand how in many cases motion may be preferable, but I am much more comfortable and happy playing with a standard dual analogue set up, that does the job so well in so many different genres
