i believe that 2011 will be the biggest year ever for PS3.

Been saying this since late '08, 2011 is the year the PS3 shines. 2012 will see it start it's downslope.

i don't completly agree with that. i think 2012 will be the yr we see PS3 360 and Wii go at it in a true war for the sells crown or the inpending doom of man kind?

It depends on two factors:

1. price cuts. There will be a $50 redcution in 2011, that's for sure. No way Sony is going 2012 with $299 PS3. Now the question is, do they reduce the price before 2011 or not? I doubt it, but I can see them doing "inoffical" pricecuts with bundles and more included hardware, for example $299 PS3 with Move and navigation Controller, or two Moves (though unlikely).

2. Kinect. The big question mark. The sales of Kinect by the end of 2011 will be an indicator of the success. If it sells 2.5-3 million or even more, I consider it success. If it's less than 2,5 million, I don't think it will lift off.

And here's my prediction: If the PS3 hits $249 or if we see bundles with Moves still going for $299,and if Kinect sells less than 2.5 million units, PS3 will dominate 2011. If only one of the conditions is fulfilled, it will be a tie of PS3 vs. 360. (or with the Wii, for that matter). If Kinect is a success and we still don't see a pricecut of the PS3, it stands no chance in 2011.

Personally, I think 2009 was the PS3's peak year.  2010 may squeak ahead by a little to be the peak year.  As of right now it is only up on 2009 by 1.1 million.  The last few weeks it has been down YoY since it was this time last year that the Slim and Price Cut took affect.  It is pretty likely that the PS3 will be down YoY for the remainder of 2010 save for a couple weeks around GT5 release.  That 1.1 million growth over 2009 will shrink pretty quickly until it either disappears entirely or hangs on by less than half a million.  So 2009 will have been the PS3's peak year, or 2010 will be by ~500k more.

This weeks sales increase my confidence in this prediction.

The main reason for this weeks sales peak is because of the onlslaught of soccer games. Europeans love soccer.  They'll even pay $400 bucks to play it on their T.V.

I think personally the 360 will start to be boosted in sales again because of Fable 3, coupled with dramatic sales increase because Kinect.  Surveys have shown a STRONG reaction from non-gaming consumers for Kinect.  The ability just to you it for everday use, like watching movies or listening to music seems to be a big incentive for many customers.  This is why Microsoft is starting to research Kinect capable computers.  I actually foresee a strong connection with large screen LCD t.v.'s and Kinect in the future, having this bundle be a dramatic increase in sales for both.  I do understand the recession, but we are nearing our down turn on that, with our only option to go up coming forth.

Just the basic things are what people are getting stoked about.  That basic interest is what got the Wii it's huge sales, and I personally believe the PS3 is also riding on the back of Move sales as of right now.  If I had $50,000 I would totally invest in Kinect specificly.

This is all opinion based off of surveys and current consumer reaction (pre-orders, trial runs, etc. etc.).  I truly just think when people look at Kinect at say, Best Buy, they aren't going to look at the PS3 and go "oh, well.... Killzone 3 is coming out."  The people who will buy Kinect aren't even going to know what Killzone is, let alone Halo.

And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Last night I sought to end that silence.

Sony's exclusives in 2011 will give it 2011.

sony will sell the most in 2011 its a given as time goes on ps3 will dominate more

You can't use last years PS3 growth to suggest that it will continue to grow next year when right now it's down year to year. Last year the PS3 got a redesign and a huge price cute. Niether of those things are going to happen again. It might get a slightly larger harddrive or Move in the box and it might get a small price reduction, but it's never going to get the boost it did last year. As for it being number 1 in 2011 I don't see that happening either. If they drop the price, even a little, MS and Nintendo will do the same. Even if Move suprises everyone and sells more than it's meager numbers right now it will still have to compete with Kinect which at the very least should give Xbox 360 the same kind of boost. Next year should look a lot like this year.

Dont forget that last year revision was accompanied with a 100$ reduction (from 399$ to 299$). We can safely say a big percentage of the sales were because of the pricecut, not the revision. Its not like the revision actually add something. Next price cut will not be as big, as some fan re-purchase a slim PS3, but surely in the same ball park.

I only mentioned the redesign, I clearly focused on the, as I put it, "huge price cut". The PS3 will probably never have another boost like it did last year.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the 360 and the Wii have their biggest holiday seasons when they dropped to $199.99?

Why does PS3 peak at $299.99?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Becuase it cost 599 originally.

Can you explain a price cut, that will not hurt Sony, when they have a larger HDD, Blue-Ray player (which is easily costing them $80 alone to produce and ship out), wireless internet (cheap, only G capability, I actually think this is the reason they were able to do a price cut), a Move controller, Eye Toy, PS3 controller, and a free online service?

I don't see a price cut in the near future for Sony, but I do see a price cut for both the 360 and Kinect, with the good old Pachter backing me up on the latter.
