isn't "Online Gameplay" and "Xbox Live" the same thing? or is it because of them being so console friendly?  because i remember PCs having milestones such as Online / LAN tournaments / Mods / MMOs before consoles had the online features.

Also, that video makes it seem like 3D came with the Playstation and Saturn. But PC had it first.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Lol at 3D and mature games. What a milestones, yeah...

I guess you want to still be stuck in 2D.

By "Mature" games, we all know they mean violent games. There were some complex, "not for the kids" games back in the day, but how big of an audience was there for that?

Violent video games ARE a milestone for the video game industry, because, just look at this community here. We always talk about how great MGS4 or Halo or Gears or Uncharted or Metroid is. Would you all really be having as much fun gaming if we were restricted to family friendly games or "Mature" games (as, like it or not, it's the Nintendo fans that like to describe them as "not for children, but not overly violent").

If all we were ever exposed to were games like Carnival Games (shovelware) or Mario or Sonic (actual good games) but never exposed to the likes of Grand Theft Auto or Tekken, do you honestly think the landscape of the industry would be the same? There'd be so many potential gamers out there who would just...not be gamers because they don't want to play family games or something like Mario. Sometimes...we just want to sit back and kill people. And the millions that bought all the Mortal Kombats, Street Fighters, Tekkens, Grand Theft Autos, Metal Gears, Halos, etc prove that

I would take off 'mature games' and Xbox Live and I would replace them with non-linear games (I honestly believed that would be 1) and player control (pioneered by Super Mario Bros)

Actually a good list and I agree with it, they missed some PC innovations sure, and the idea that Digital Distribution being the future is questionable, but overall its very accurate and it gives credit to who originally pushed it which I like.

Some should be lower and some should be higher on that list.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Xbox Live should be number 1 !

I'm not even looking at the video. The thought of "mature" games being a milestone shows they don't know gaming history. And it seems they just split online and Xbox Live. By all reason they should have been the same thing.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Mature games and XBL are my only "say what!?"'s.

Placement seems odd indeed.

Xbox Live higher than the entire Wii/DS consoles even though PC had online communities long before Xbox live?

Yes PC had online far before Xbox/360 you could use the same logic with video games in general PC had them far before Nintendo or Sega does that mean Nintendo or Sega was not influential in the console industry?  it cannot be denied that Microsoft revolutionized it for consoles, it is the basis for PSN, part of the reason console gamers are now so crazy about online and asking the question "Does it have co-op" everytime a game is announced is because of Microsoft, and it also boosted the sales of console games, Multiplayer console games sell millions in mere weeks now occasionaly, they successfully created the first indepth console network with indie games, downloadable content, downloadable games, Add on content, Demos and every other feature Xbox live has, its possible if not for Xbox live we would still be getting demo disc from Magazines.
