Forums - Website Topics - The VGC 3.0 Complaint/Suggestion Thread

So, I made one of these for 2.0, and I'd like to think it went rather well.

I've already suggested all of my ideas in the staff forums, so it's all you.

Basically, any complaint or suggestion which you don't think warrants a thread, post here.

EDIT 10/10/10: I should point out that TalonMan no longer works here, apparently, so if you're wondering why your problem isn't being solved...well, that's it.

I thought there was a thread already? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=110551

Well anyways, I posted this there:

The only thing I would really change is the placement of the sub-sites in the hub site. Show the VGChartz sub-site on top by replacing it with gamrFeed or gamrReview. I mean, shouldn't it be the main focus of the Network?

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

We desperatly need thread page navigation buttons on the buttom of the page as well, and buttons for skipping to the last and first pages of the thread as well.

I'm just a little confused.

1. Do I have to hit "Reply" to post in a thread now? For some reason that's the only option I'm seeing...

2. How do I access my messages? I got a message right before the site went under and I'm not sure how to find it now. When I click on "Messages" nothing happens.

Overall, I think it's too soon for me to post my opinion on it because it's a massive change. I'm just happy that we can now look read the fonts without squinting really hard.

1) Yes, you do. It's pretty much the same as a reply in 2.0. I'm not a huge fan, but I'm outnumbered

2) That would be a bug. So you're in the right place

Just a few things I have noticed so far:

  • The "Section 8" forum doesn't work, takes you to the feeds page
  • If you go to comment on someones wall, and type something in, then try to click somewhere in the message (to edit it or something) whatever you typed will disappear
  • There is no page forward/back arrows at the bottom of pages anymore, so you need to scroll up to the top of the page again to move forward/back
  • I like how the posts now have a date stamp on them and do not have to click view post, any chance you could add a time stamp as well? :D
  • Maybe have it so users can change the color scheme to something they like?  Im seeing a lot of people don't like the blinding white
  • Fix the double, tripe, etc post thing - I know you shouldn't click the done button many times, but one thing I learned in programming, if an end user can try it, they will
  • Fix the bug that happens when I write something and then hit done, it doesn't cut off what I just typed?  (second time posting this message now)

  • New site looks more futuristic, and I like how the games show up now, looks a lot cleaner, will have to get used to this again...
Also I don't know if this is possible, but on the old site, on the left hand side when you were in a thread it showed the threads you recently posted in, any chance to get that back..
EDIT: Oh yeah, bring IM back as well :P

I would also like some navigation buttons at the bottom of the page.

I would also like an "ignore user" option, as always.

It is aestetically slicker, but the design should focus a bit more on real use cases.

Example 1: Activity Feed gives a lot of space to friends wall postings and relegates all hot forum activity to an indifferentaited and smaller fragment at bottom right. It might very well be - as in my case - that the main activity is seeing what goes on in the forums, thus I'd like them to have much more space. Maybe a tab structure, where they have the same priority as the wall activities?

Example 2: Some of my friends' walls are so filled up with the notifications that they've posted on someone else's that there is barely spaces for the proper posts. If I'm reading a wall I don't want to navigate with the pager through pages of useless notifications, I think they should not count to the post count per page.

Example 3: When I jump into a thread, very often I want to go to the last page. I can't see any way to do that, I only see previous/next controls next to the post counts. For really big threads it's a chore, and I resorted to editing the url directy. When I'm done reading a page, the controls should be duplicated right there at the bottom of the page because the most likely behaviour is that I want to click for next

I'll test it a bit more later, and add further comments.

Gives back the highscore thingy.... made me feel not alone...

And why is the forum width larger? it's strange...

And a Post text field message below a thread..

    The rest is great!

I want some decent smileys already! Every other forum has a range of adorable smileys to choose from. What the hell is this:

    No. Just no.

But that issue should probably be pretty far down on the to-do list...

For now, what we really need is hot topics back like it used to be! PLEASE.

I posted this in another thread but I think the site people are more likely to read it here so I will re post.

"ok first of all the only thing I didn't like about 2.0 was the fact that at the time I had a 4:3 monitor and I had to scroll to the left all  the time in the forums.

The new design on the other hand has lots of problems that I have noticed after just a few minutes using it.

1st it suffers from the same thing I hate about the google and youtube changes, white with light grey soft borders, stuff blends together and it's hard to see the difference between quotes and the replies. Combined with the floaty design it makes the site a pain to read.

2nd in long threads like this one the fact that the link to go to the next page of the thread is only at the top of the page makes it a pain to read. Seriously PUT A LINK AT THE BOTTOM when the page first loads you don't want to go to the next page of posts strait away, you do when you reach the bottom  so it makes sense to put the link at the bottom or both.

3rd the lack of a quick reply box is annoying bring it back please.

4th light green on white is a no no ether make the green darker or change it.

5th an dark design option for the people that prefer it would be nice.

fix those issues and bring back the ability to refresh the list of recent threads without refreshing the page and bring back the list of threads that you have posted in and an indication that you have been quoted in one back on the side when in the forums and I think I will like the site again."

ok second edit the forum seems buggy cut off most of my post and when I edited it doubled up my sig
