Bundles and audience of casuals highly susceptible to, well pretty much any form of advertising. Alongside large install-base.

And that the 3rd party games aren't usually up to standard in either marketing or quality so most people focus there purchases on the 'Nintendo'.

Only 14million people? That's a LOT of people.

Not to mention that many people would have bought it if it hadn't been bundled, as it was a genuinely fantastic game.

First mover advantage.

Nintendo comes up with the ideas and/or makes them work while most other companies are content with copying what others have done before.

and im sure nintenddo never copied anything from anyone...

Creating new tech is called invention.

Combining existing techs and make it popular is called innovation.

Try to understand the difference.

whats that has to do with my post?

Less focus on 'epic' and more focus on 'fun'.

Although Rol makes good points, I think this quote here actually has more to do it. Nintendo has not forgotten what games are supposed to be about, and thus not gone for Sony's graphical extravaganza or Microsoft's hormonal rush. All a game really needs to be good is to be fun -the rest can be nice, but ultimately it's all just gravy- and Nintendo's focus on this over all else is ultimately what makes its games so much better.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

You know what, this is one of the best questions that has ever been asked!

I would say that it comes down to Nintendo knowing exactly what type of things entertain and grab huge audiences..

These are the original guys from back with the original nintendo.. Theyve been attracting mass audiences with their games for years, their experience just keeps growing, their ideas stay fresh, and they continue to make art.

“Absolutely, we can do much more with it. I don’t know if we are even close to 50 percent of PlayStation 3’s power at this point,” said Asmussen about God of War 3.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

Non-competition. And i'm not just talking about the Blue Ocean games and such, but most of Nintendo's biggest or best-known games are hard to classify, or are in low-competition genres (nobody else really tries to make premium retail platformers, for instance, outside of Insomniac and Sonic Team)

Why do people count Wii Sports? Seriously... It is bundled with every Wii, besides the ones sold in Japan and only 14m people decided to buy Wii Sports Resort. Doesn't that really show that 1 out of 5 gives a rats ass about that crappy game they got when they bought the Wii? I think it is an insult to other games to try to live up to a game where close to all of the copies were bundled. It really isn't the game that sells, and Wii Sports Resort numbers backs this up. I mean, if people loved Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort numbers would be a lot higher.

how wrong you are.

First off, Wii Sports Resort has only been out ~9 months is still selling over 100k/week and has since it was released. So, 14m and climbinb easily to pass 20m. 30m people won't all be buying the game in the first 9 months as they probably wouldn't even produce that many. Also, Wii Sports sold to over 35% of Japanese Wii owners. Even if we said that western audiences would only have a 20% attach rate that would still be over 15m total units sold, which would still dwarf all the other competition.

So, while you may think it is a crap game, lots of people like it. I think it is a better game than the majority of games you listed that came out for PS360 over the last 4 months.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
