If you've already got Madden 2008, are most people really going to go out and buy Madden 2009 the next year? If you've already got a bunch of great titles and are still playing them are you going to be as likely to go out and look for new stuff to play, especially if you can borrow from your friends?

Yes but Madden 2008 or 2009 has nothing to do with the console they are on. Consumers will not buy a product if they do not offer something new, improvements over the prior version (that validates a purchase), or desired (or pushed hard enough to create one by advertsiging). Madden games do not offer enough incentives for the users to buy a newer version. Buy for example UC2 offered a mch different and better experience than UC1 so people buy it. This has nothing to do with the console they are on tho. Two very different product life cycles.

Consumers only buy product if they are dis-satisfied with their present situation. If they are completely satisfied with the games they are currently playing they will not go out and buy new ones. However new console owners buy a lot of titles within the first few years of ownership because they are starting from 0. They have nothing in the library, so how can they be satisfied with what they already own?

The 360 is VERY cheap in the UK though.. and almost half the price of the ps3 or am I wrong?

Just the Arcade.  The majority of sales being the Elite which is the same price as the PS3 120gb.  So I guess you are half wrong?

give me numbers saying that in the UK more than 50% of 360 sales come from the elite, and I will agree with you. And the ELITE also is bundled with several IP.

The elite has been on avaiable for the last 2 months for £150. PS3 is like £220 cheapest.

It makes sense for the UK to be the 360s second strongest region (unless you count America's Hat as number 2) because, to be honest, it culturally is most similiar to the USA. Language, heritage, ect.

Also, I think the Continent (especially France) has had issues w/ American Policy in the recent years, and that may lead indirectly to the 360 (being American) less desirable. Japan (w/ the exception of Korea, and possibly Chine) is not really divisive. No one for the most part is anti Japan (unless they are still butt hurt about Pearl Harbor)

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Your first point is right on the money, and the second is just so wrong and not true at all.

I put I think in the front just to make it clear it was a perception of mine. Honestly, there may be no anti american sentiment on the continent, it just seems our current leadership talks about repairing America's reputation overseas, so I thought it was safe to assume that it did exist in some form. I know the anti french/russian sentiment in the US has a minor impact on the popularity of their products in the past(not counting the annoying practice of calling "french fries" "freedom fries")

I don't think it's anti-American sentiment in the political sense, per se. But American-made products certainly don't have the cachet that Japanese-made products do: in France at least, and probably in other countries, they're viewed as being cheaply-made and compromised by cost-cutting. So when your average French or German gamer sees reports that the 360 has serious reliability problems it'll greatly impact his willingness to buy the product because it confirms what he already thinks about American-made hardware: that it's shit.

So are you saying by the 4-5th year of xbox it has reached it's last stage of the life cycle already? :S Cuz if not then what you say makes no sense to me. You say people will buy many games once they buy the console anew. What facts do you have to back that up? If a game offers something good, new. or desired people will buy it. Every Halo will sell well. EWvery NSMB will sell well. Every COD will sell well. Every GT will sell well. It has absolutely nothing to do with the console. Again it's a seperate life cycle. Your just twisting your initial statement now.

360 is much cheaper than the PS3 in UK. 360 launched 16 months before the PS3 in the UK. 17 months advantage is a big lead in regards to gaining install base and market exposure and more time for marketing and advertising in the region.
360 has had wo more extra Xmas periods than the PS3 in the UK.
Microsoft puts more time, effort and $$$ into advertising and marketing the 360 in the UK.

Another person that completely doesn't get the point of the thread

360 in the UK against PS3 in comparison to 360 against PS3 in the US.

I think I answered this question pretty well (a post which is, of course, being conveniently ignored).

Why would the 360's strongest country/territory be one where it's not winning and is not even close to the Wii in sales?

Because it's pretty clear that he's comparing the 360 to itself and the PS3 and not the Wii? I don't see how you're arguing that because the Wii is beating it in the US, thus the 360 can't have the US as its "strongest" country. And yeah, I think I'll keep going on thinking the US is its strongest country rather than a speculative post that it could be Brazil or some other random country...
