Anything higher than 480 = HD.

In that case the European Wii is HD.

Technically, yes! Assuming its actually running above 480.

You've been proven wrong about 6 times in this thread yet you still go on with this nonsense? Anything less than 720p is not HD.

Well the standard for gaming has been 480. So yeah, I'm entitled to my opinion.

Well, in my opinion, your opinion is *insert derogative term here*.

HD is a funny term you know. Nothing is official. Apparently anything above 30 lines is HD.

576 is higher than what is commonly known as SD. Therefore it must be HD. Feel free to cry some more, can't change my opinion.

By the way, I know Euro SD is 576. However its 720x576. The HD resolution is 1024x576.

Saying something over and over again doesn't make it true. HD is a *defined standard* and only includes three signal types: 720p, 1080i and 1080p, in varying frequencies (24, 25, 30, 50, and 60hz, I believe).

So stop flooding the thread with things that aren't true.

High definition is only defined as higher than standard. Not an exact resolution.

HD is a marketing term, the actual resolution looks like WSXGA or something like that which is the actual technical term behind the name.

Having skimmed this thread and only reading half the pages I suddenly have a strong desire for Final Fantasy XIII to tank and XIV to tank and there to never be another FF game like this ever released and that Square goes back to the drawing board and releases a FFXV game with a reasonable budget and no FMV cutscenes.

Alternatively if the above doesn't happen, a PC release so I can buy it for the express purpose of showing off my 8x MSAA 1920/1080 shots and going nya nya nya nya.

Well there is a PC version of the game that's sitting on a bunch of harddrives at Square Enix.  Probably have better assets too, if those before and after comparison shots are valid.

I wonder if they'd release it? I mean they're trying to sell FFXIV on the PC platform too. I just want to show off and say 'definatively on PC' or something like that. No reason other than to laugh at the people who are taking this all too seriously. I love I.Q. but I don't mind a lower rendering resolution, 576 is about as bad as 720 in that I try to turn off to the scaling artifacts and focus on the game itself. If its not the best then I try to ignore the little things or I would never enjoy any console game, like for example Uncharted 2. I put my analysis hat on for the first half of the game but I just ended up going @#$% about the aliasing @ 1280 by 1080 resolution.

EDTV is 720x576. But Final Fantasy XIII is running at 1024x576.

Like I said, HD is anything above the standard. 720 and 1080 are just common resolutions. You can also find HDTVs that are 768.

Your guess is as good as anyone's.  If I'm right they spent a lot of time making that PC version only to have them spend a year porting it back to the PS3 and half a year porting it to the 360, so having a fully developed game sitting on a bunch of harddrives just for porting purposes is a waste.  Though, I guess it depends what deal is in place between Sony, Square and Microsoft.  Though in the current state of gaming I doubt Microsoft or Sony wants a PC version released; especially after all the fiascos going around with this game.  Wait a year and then that "someone" will feel they can make money off of the PC version, is what I say.

I think a lot of people fail to realize how bad is the 360 version, it's almost half the pixel rendered

1024x576= 589 824 pixels

1280x720= 921 600 pixels

In termes of definition it's a massive downgrade. Bayonetta was nowhere to be as bad since both games were running in 1280x720 with no AA on both consoles. The main différence was the lightning and filtering.

The problem is not disc space here, it has nothing to do with it. Disc space (and mandatory HDD) could be an issue in the game design process of the game, how it was built, the path, etc..but not the resolution.
Rendering resolution is more a framebuffer problem, probably SE tried to fit the framebuffer in one pass in the small 10MB of eDRAM of the 360, without tiling, so they couldn't go further than this resolution + 2xmsaa.

BTW, I'd like to add that I was watching the FF13 gameplay videos hooked up to my TV and in full screen. All I gotta say is WOW to 2 different things:

1)SE made a good job at porting this game (based on those small clips)

2)Sony Fanboys that have been talking shit about our version are definitely a bunch of lonely tards with no friends and watching porn 24/7 in their mommy's basement! I have 20/20 vision, a 32 inch LCD tv and couldn't tell the jagged graphics. Way to hate on something that doesn't matter. Maybe you guys should go out every now and then so you have better things to hate on.

Another set of comparison screens. These seem real this time, except the quality of the pics is still pretty bad..

http://translate.google.it/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=it&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http://www.console-tribe.com/news/6-2-272522/screenshot-di-comparazione-xbox360---ps3-per-final-fantasy-xiii.html&sl=it&tl=en&swap=1

In different screens different things are blurred out.. I'll simply take the last two and compare them.. You do with this info what you will.. Make sure you watch the screens in real-size/max-size). I don't provide the link for nothing. Here goes.

X360 version:

http://www.console-tribe.com/showimage.php?img=http://images.console-tribe.com/ps3/news/10.02.24/360last.jpg

PS3 version:

http://www.console-tribe.com/showimage.php?img=http://images.console-tribe.com/ps3/news/10.02.24/ps3last.jpg

X360 advantages:
Better hair (less dithering, though in other moments this might turn around..)
Better texture filtering (look below the camera tutorial text at the black stripes on the floor and you'll see the difference)
IMO better colors
Seems to have less jaggies (though it's cuz of blur..)

PS3 advantages:
Less blur
Seems to be higher res natively
Lighting slightly better
Better textures (but filtering is worse..)

Bottom line:
The differences are up to preference.. Pick whichever version you would like, and don't believe all the hype that either version is way superior than the other.. Your experience will not be ruined with either one.
