Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Best motion controls on Wii

Definitely the Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Skyward Sword. Never once had any issues with it what so ever. The motion controls in that game a simply sublime. Shame that it came so late to the console.

Korononpia the tilt precision was amazing

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Metroid Prime 3 (and trilogy)
The Conduit
Skyward Sword when it worked
Super Monkey Ball had great controls

Unpopular opinion, but I must say after trying out VIVE controllers, I realized how much Wii Remote Plus was just plain terrible.
I still play Wii from time to time, lot of motion contolled games, but it feels so laggy and unprecise.
Despite that, Grand Slam is one of my favourites on Wii.

That would be a logical conclusion, actually. The tech in those controllers is nearly a decade more advanced, and also multiple times more expensive. It's not just the vibe, but virtually every motion controller - Motion+ was definitely not perfect. It's probably part of the reason why I enjoyed the IR and accelerometer controls a lot more, they were fairly snappy and did what they were supposed to.

MotionPlus was a longevity add on.  Only about 50 games actually supported it, and of those 50, only 5 required it: Red Steel 2 was the only third party games built to require it. While Skyward Sword, Sports Resort, Wii Play Motion, and Fling Smash (I don't even remember that one) were the only first/second party games that required it.

What happened with motion controls is that the Wii was the first wave. Nintendo needed a second wave WAY before the technology was ready. If the adequate technology arrived before 2008, we might have seen a Wii HD in 2010-2012 instead of the Wii U.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Skyward Sword hands down. I have heard mixed stories about them, but I personally had zero problems so I base it on my own experience.

Motion: Wii Sports Resort.
Pointer: Any FPS game, really.
Use of both: Pro Evolution Soccer series.

It is embarrassing how overlooked the Pro Evolution Soccer series on Wii tends to be. I do not even play sports titles, to this day, because the total control offered in PES on Wii is lost. Great pointer controls that are accurate and quick, satisfactory motion controls used minimally for shooting and forcing a high offside defensive line. This should have been the standard for all sports titles and yet, it got (and still gets) ignored because... ...I do not know why.

I actually feel the Mario Galaxy games are a great and overlooked example of motion controls done well.

While "waggle" is often dismissed as always a negative, I found flicking the remote to propel Mario into the air or whack an enemy immensely satisfying, as was sweeping up star bits with the pointer. Furthermore, the use of motion for things like riding the rolling ball and surfing on a stingray brought variety to the gameplay in a fun way.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories was another good one rarely mentioned. (And also just a really good game that's rarely mentioned IMO)

Using motion and pointer controls to aim your torch, manipulate your environment to solve puzzles, and throw off attacking enemies felt great.

The ending is probably what people remember the most fondly about this one, quite jaw dropping.

Also, interesting how they used your behavior during psychiatric sessions to portray the cast and environments you go through.

I'd say it could definitely be a Top 3 games in the franchise.

Yeah the psych stuff and the ending were really cool. Had a great sense of atmosphere too. It's also one of the best looking realistic-styled games on the system with excellent character models, textures, shadows, particles, and animation. One of those rare instances where a third party genuinely put effort into making the best game they could on Wii.

Pikmin 3
