Forums - Sales Discussion - Prediction: Nothing will outsell PSP anymore (except Playstation home consoles)

Not a difficult prediction to make. No one's actually expecting the Xbone to reach Xbox 360 sales, 360 is the best supported MS platform ever and it barely made it past the PSP. Xbox is losing the market share it captured from PS last gen. Nintendos hardware business is dwindling, the 3DS has peaked, mobiles changed the handheld industry forever, the next Nintendo handheld will likely have trouble reaching even the 3DS sales. Same story with their home consoles. Nintendo consoles sold less each gen since the NES if the Wii is left out.

NES: ~61M
SNES: ~49M
N64: ~34M
GCN: ~22M
WiiU: ~16M?

I find it hysterical the way you and other Sony-posters have to pretend like the Wii didn't exist to make yourselves feel better when talking about Nintendo.  (Not that it matters to Nintendo. I'd rather profit off 22million Gamecubes than lose my shirt/break-even selling 80 million PS3's too.)  Anyway, my point is, it would be like if in every post I were to pretend the PS2 didn't exist and look at the video game industry this way:

1 Nintendo DS (DS) 57.37 52.07 33.01 12.43 154.88
2 Game Boy (GB) 43.18 40.05 32.47 2.99 118.69
3 PlayStation (PS) 38.94 36.91 19.36 9.04 102.49           ;)
4 Wii (Wii) 45.37 33.75 12.77 9.28 101.17

You're right.  Ignoring the existence of one entire product really does put a different spin on the industry.

Please dear Dr, write "prediction" in the title...
Because this IS NOT fact.

You use VGChartz numbers for all three Nintendo consoles but for Playstation 1 you use Sony's last shipments? ^^
Anyway, it is still impressive how much the first Playstation sold!!!

And that's without mentioning how silly it is to say wii u will decline from gamecube when it still has years to sell.

This gen, good chance. Forever? Nothing is certain.

Thought I am quite certain that's not going happen.

To further emphasise my point. We don't pretend the Wii didn't exist. The Wii was an anomaly when you consider Nintendo consoles sold less with each gen. The hardcore Nintendo fanbase even decreased during the Wii gen because the Wii U is selling less than the Gamecube, which leads me to believe the actual Nintendo fanbase that bought the Wii was somewhere between the GCN and Wii U. No way did it increase over GCN and then took such a massive dive gen over gen. It is obvious where the bulk of the Wii install base came from and where it went.

There's nothing silly about that claim at all. The Wii U is tracking behind the Gamecube and third party support is all but gone. It's pretty much in the same position the Vita found itself in last year. Additionally, I can understand why somebody would ignore the Wii when anaylzing Nintendo's sales trends due to the fact that it existed in a vacuum thanks to Sony's enormous, industry defining incompetence. That being said, I disagree with its exclusion because even if the PS3 was a well designed, reasonably priced console that launched on time it still wouldn't have prevented a significant increase in hardware sales for the Wii.

@OP

I agree with your assertion because I can not see Microsoft ever coming close to the 360's level of success ever again. Additionally, I just don't see Nintendo regaining any momentum in the console market and even if they did it would require a spectacular failure on the part of Sony to create another opportunity to move that much hardware. Finally, the decline of dedicated handhelds is painfully obvious so I doubt that anything will surpass the PSP from this point forward (except for Playstation home consoles of course).

Important fact: GC was at 99$ in the same date, Wii U is at 299$.

I don't think that Wii U will outsell GC (22,000,000), but 16,000,000 for me is too low.

18,000,000 to 20,000,000 seem a better prediction. ^^

lol, see the thread I created yesterday (Is PS One overtracked on VGChartz (serious and honest question)
in Sony Discussion, 56 replies (0 new)) for why I intentionally did that.  And, also the winking smile face was to indicate that it was done "tongue in cheek".
